  1. 1 John 5:16-17 Sin not leading to deathSin leading to death

  2. text • 1 John 5:16-17 - If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask & God will for him give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should make request for this. 17 All unrighteousness is sin, & there is a sin not leading to death.

  3. physical death • Sins leading to physical death: Suicide, drug & alcohol use, violating the traffic laws • The Jews murdered • Jesus & Stephen prayed for them (Luke 23:34; Acts 7:60)

  4. spiritual death • All sins (Rom 6:20-23) • Restored with the help of others (Gal 6:1; Matt 18:15-16; Acts 8:24) • Restored through prayer (1 John 1:8-10)

  5. sins leading to death • Disrespecting God • Deut 1:43 - So I spoke to you (Numbers 14), but you would not listen. Instead you rebelled against the command of the Lord, & acted presumptuously [insolent; casual disrespect, unrestrained] & went up into the hill country.

  6. sins leading to death • Disrespecting God • Deut 17:12-13 - The man who acts presumptuously by not listening to the priest who stands there to serve the Lord your God, nor to the judge, that man shall die; thus you shall purge the evil from Israel. 13 Then all the people will hear & be afraid, & will not act presumptuously again.

  7. sins leading to death • Disrespecting God • Num 15:30-31- But the person who does anything defiantly [deceive, mislead, betray] whether he is native or an alien, that one is blaspheming the Lord; & that person shall be cut off from among his people. 31 ‘Because he has despised the word of the Lord & has broken His commandment, that person shall be completely cut off; his guilt will be on him.’“

  8. sins leading to death • Disrespecting God • Heb 10:26-28-For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a terrifying expectation of judgment & THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES. • Hebrews 6:4-5

  9. sins leading to death • Disrespecting God • 2 Peter 2:20- For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them & are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.

  10. sins leading to death • Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit • Jesus told the Jews they could reject Him, but if they blasphemed the Holy Spirit they could not be forgiven (Luke 12:10; Matt 12:31-32; Mk 3:28-30; Mark 16:20; Heb 2:3-4)

  11. sins NOT leading to death • Praying for sinners: • Christians who have sinned (James 5:15) • Job for his friends bad advice (Job 42:7-9) • Abraham for Abimelech (Gen 20:7) • Moses for Israel (Psalm 106:23) • Hezekiah for the unpurified (2 Chron 30:18-20) • Amos for Israel (Amos 7:1-3)

  12. Back to - sins leading to death

  13. sins leading to death • Disrespecting God & Blaspheme His word. • No intercessor found (Ezekiel 22:29-30) • Do not pray for Israel (Jer 7:16; 11:14)

  14. sins leading to death • Jer 15:1-2 - Then the Lord said to me, “Even though Moses & Samuel were to stand before Me, My heart would not be with this people; send them away from My presence & let them go! 2 And it shall be that when they say to you, ‘Where should we go?’ then you are to tell them, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Those destined for death, to death; & those destined for the sword, to the sword; & those destined for famine, to famine; & those destined for captivity, to captivity.”‘

  15. Salvation remains open for all who will accept it. People cannot delay for long.
