  2. How I used these materials • (Previous homework: learn vocabulary for Slide 13) • Grammar presentation • Then recap on grammar: what have we just talked about? (Class remember/explain) • Slide 11: print-out for pupils, two to a sheet of A4 • Slide 13 Two volunteers, one minute – how many pieces can you move onto the steps (one per step, starting at bottom)? Teacher gives the English, they choose the Russian • Slide 14: Reading comprehension. • Slide 15: Timed activity, putting vocabulary onto two columns (Town or Countryside) Could be turned into worksheet. • Homework: Reading worksheet, Town versus countryside

How to form most comparative adjectives METHOD 1 (when the adjective comes before the noun) быстрый автобус a fast bus Более быстрый автобус a faster bus БОЛЕЕ + ADJECTIVE + NOUN METHOD 2 (when the adjective comes after the noun) Автобус быстрее.The bus is faster. It’s the same for different tenses: Автобус был быстрее. The bus was faster Автобус будет быстрее. The bus will be faster NOUN + VERB + SHORT-FORM COMPARATIVE ADJECTIVE [Note you can also do this: Автобус более быстрый but you cannot do this быстрее автобус – a faster bus.]

MORE ON METHOD 2 (when the adjective comes after the noun e.g. автобус быстрее the bus is quicker) • On the previous slide we saw that most adjectives form their • short-form comparative by changing their ending to –ее. • There are a few-short form comparative adjectives which have special forms. • These are the ones you need to know for GCSE: • большеbigger Этот дом больше.This house is bigger. • меньше less/smallerЭтот дом меньше.This house is smaller. • лучше better Эта сумка лучше. This bag is better. • хуже worse Это вино хуже. This wine is worse.
