  3. Who will we be helping? There are approximately 150 children who will need help with homework Ages range from kindergarten to high school.

  4. Why you should help In 1991, a study involving an after-school tutoring program in which low-achieving second and third graders were tutored for three times a week by trained professionals, indicated that over 50% of the children being tutored made a full year’s gain in education, particularly reading. The other 50% made significant educational gains. --- U.S. Department of Education (1997) WSU mission statement: “A Community of learners improving our world.”

  5. Why you should help One of the biggest concerns of the Maplewood community is the safety of their children – found through survey of the community done by WSU nursing students. The community center provides a safe and structured place for them to be after school. Gives them a place to go that is not out on the street getting into trouble Gives them access to adults who want to send the message that they care

  6. Need more motivation? Builds Resume Adds Care group or volunteer hours Personal growth – builds character THESE KIDS NEED YOU- break the cycle
