  1. Things To Know Before Visiting Armenia

  2. In this article I want to share my experience about one of the most ancient countries in the world - Armenia. I have managed to learn a lot about the peculiarities of the country during one week and I will share those peculiarities with you and advise to visit Armenia for sure. History • The history of Armenia originates 3000 years ago. This means that Armenia along with Egypt and other countries is one of the oldest origins of the civilizations. • In 2018, the 2800th anniversary of Yerevan was celebrated. • Armenia is the first country which adopted Christianity as a state religion and several years ago the Pope made a pilgrimage here as the first Christian country.

  3. Armenians have their own alphabet • As you know most of the countries use the Latin alphabet. • While in Armenia, Greece and many other places, people had created their own alphabet and started a powerful cultural literary heritage. This is very interesting from the tourism point of view. In order to learn about this I’d advice visiting Matenadaran museum in Yerevan where ancient Armenian manuscripts are kept.

  4. Armenian brandy is one of the most popular in the world • In general, Armenian vineyards have a history of millennia. Wine from grapes was being made here even 5000 years ago. In 2011, 5,000-year-old leather shoes and plates from wine making clay were found in Areni's cave. • And the legendary Ararat brandy is really one of the most qualified and popular in the world. It was the favorite beverage of Whistler Churchill and Stalin.

  5. Geography • Armenia is located near the famous Caucasian mountains. However, the nowadays Armenia is only the smallest part of the historical Armenian plateau - the biggest part of it is in the territory of Turkey. By the way, right in that territory is also the symbol of Armenia - Ararat mountain where Noah’s ark landed. Most beloved sport in Armenia • It is a surprising fact, however neither football, nor tenis are the most popular sports in Armenia - it’s chess. Armenia has given the world many champions in this sport. Moreover, chess has become a mandatory lesson in Armenian schools.

  6. Armenian bread - Lavash • UNESCO has recognized Armenian lavash as a unique cultural heritage. Lavash is a very unique type of a bread, which is prepared on fire in special Armenian heater. Its name is tonir.

  7. Armenian architecture • Armenian architecture has been set up not only in the capital city Yerevan but throughout Armenia. I would especially like to mention the centuries-old monasteries and churches that besides being religious centers are beautiful and unique examples of culture and architecture. • You should just take a taxi or a random tour in Armenia and enjoy the sightseeings of this wonderful country.
