We do the research, create articles, and publish them in a book. • Collaboration, student centered learning, class discussions • Spanish and cultural lessons

  5. Foreign Language Elementary School • Your student will receive approximately 45 minutes to an hour a day of Spanish instruction. • First half of “Español” we learn about culture, the second half is language • Quizzes are given periodically and a Unit Test will be given at the end of each theme. • We hold a special event each year to learn about a cultural holiday. Students make crafts, learn about Spanish-speaking countries, and important dates in Latin America. • We perform at Winter Spectacular annually • Homework in Spanish- I will periodically send home basic activities.

  7. Homework • I usually assign a math page, ELA, and always 20 minutes of reading. Occasionally, I will assign Spanish homework. Assignments are due the following day. Students without homework do missing work during Fun Friday. • In case of emergency, write me a note to excuse work. • Math: We will be receiving student passwords. You will be able to access help and day’s lesson online through Power School.

  8. SCHOOL-WIDE POLICIES • Students are not to arrive before 8:00 and they need to be picked up by 3:00, as there is no supervision. • Late pick ups will be signed out from the office or multi this year • Research shows that the healthiest lunch/recess schedule is to play first and eat second so we will follow that format this year • Cell phones must be kept off and out of site.  We are not responsible for lost or damaged cell phones.  Students may use them after school once in the quad area only.  • Please do not wait for your child in the hallway. Students need to be picked up in front of the school, at the quad. • Make sure to check-in at office and have all the required paperwork cleared before volunteering in class or on field trips.

  9. BehaviorI believe that a classroom should be a safe, welcoming, and interactive learning environment. In order to create such an atmosphere, I expect the highest standard of behavior from every student at all times.

  10. Behavior Classroom Rules: • Stay in your seat unless you have been given permission to get up. • Raise your hand if you wish to share something with the class. • Keep your hands, feet and objects to yourself. • Follow directions the first time. • SLANT (sit up straight, lean forward, activate your thinking, note key information, track the teacher) S-Safe O-On Task A-Always Respectful R-Responsible

  11. Behavior • Students begin the day on green (for being on task) • A behavior card can also turn to “Awesome Orange” for exemplary behavior • Check your child’s homework log on a daily basis to see what color they ended their day on. Consequences: • Behavior card turns yellow= warning • Behavior card turns red= student loses one recess • Consistent red cards= student loses recess for the rest of that week • Parents will be contacted • Meet with Principal

  12. BehaviorMy #1 strategy to classroom management and a successful learning environment, is positive reinforcement. Rewards: • Praise/ Awesome Orange • Literacy Reinforcers • Eagle Tickets • Group Points: group reward on Friday for best team • Class Marbles: class party when marble jar is filled • Star Student (every two weeks)

  13. Parental Support • Since I expect quality work from my students, I need parents to help out by monitoring their child’s work at home. Make sure that your child is doing their work correctly and neatly. Also, every third grade student is required to read 20 minutes nightly for homework. Parents are the main reinforcement of this homework, so your child will need your guidance to make sure it is done. Please make sure to sign their Homework Log every evening after they finish reading.

  14. Parental Support • Help me, help you…the best way to help me is to have your child here on time and rested. Attendance • These days are packed! Absences: Students should not come to school if they have had a fever in the past 24 hours. • Students are responsible for making up the work they miss. They need to copy down the work from a friend or me, and make sure to put it in their homework folder.

  15. Grades • Based on observations, homework assignments, projects, completed classroom work, and test scores (all based on the CC Standards). • On report cards academic scores of • M= Meets or exceeds level standards • D= Developing Proficiency with steady progress on grade level standards • L= Limited proficiency with limited progress on grade level standards

  16. Birthdays • You are welcome to send treats. However, they need to be individually packed. We cannot cut cakes in class or serve ice cream. If you are providing drinks, please send juice pouches. • Please do not send birthday invitations to be passed out at school unless the whole class is invited–mailing them is a good option to avoid hurt feelings.

  17. Communication Folder • Contains graded assignments, tests, newsletters, and various forms of school information

  18. Estudiante Estrella (Star Student) • Every two weeks I select one Star Student to be honored for their hard work and dedication to the class, the school, and their peers. • Certificate of Achievement • Teacher’s Helper • Star Chair Cover • Honor Wall • Price from Treasure Box • Awesome Orange

  19. SBAC • The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium is developing a system of valid, reliable, and fair next-generation assessments aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English language arts/literacy (ELA/literacy) and mathematics for grades 3-8 and 11.

  20. PTA • Please take a registration envelope. • Register and attend meetings. • Discuss issues and make decisions that affect our school. • Parent involvement is crucial in laying the foundation for your child’s future.

  21. Contacting Me • Phone- at school (916)363-2601 Ext. 113 • Email- mcambero@fcusd.org • Drop by after school
