  1. SCUBA in the era of the new OCS Tim Jenness JCMT Interfaces Meeting / April 2nd-6th 2001

  2. Current situation • Vax + transputers • Driven completely by ODFs • Uses SCUBA scripting language for observing recipes • Vax queue controlled from unix ICL • ORAC-DR for near realtime reduction on Unix

  3. Observation Definition Files • Keyword value pairs • Fully specifies observation • Only two keywords point to files • jiggle pattern • polarimeter angles • ODFs mounted on vax from unix disk

  4. With the new OCS…. • OMP now processes MSBs • Observer no longer creates ODFs • ODFs are now generated automatically by the translator • Must provide SCUBA Observing Tool

  5. new OCS (continued) • Integrate SCUBA queue with the Observing Manager/OCS queue • Remove QUEMAN • Extend ORAC-DR recipes to send information to the OMP

  6. What we are not doing • Replacing the transputers with VxWorks • Moving the VAX software to Unix (no transputer adamnet)
