  1. EL PRESENTE DEL SUBJUNTIVO The conjugation of the present subjunctive involves three steps: 1- Take the YO FORM of the PRESENT INDICATIVE 2- Drop the O 3- Add the following endings: AR: e es e emoséis en ER: a as a amosáis an IR: a as a amosáisan

  2. CONJUGACION CAR, GAR, ZAR spelling change is used in all forms of the verb.

  3. VERBOS CON CAMBIO AR-ER • Stem-changing verbs in AR and ER have the same stem changes in the present subjunctive as in the present indicative. They do not change in the nosotros and vosotros forms.

  4. VERBOS CON CAMBIO QUE TERMINAN EN IR • Stem- changing verbs in IR have the same stem changes as the present indicative for the YO, TÚ, ÉL, ELLA, UD, ELLOS, ELLAS, UDS. forms, but the stem vowel in the nosotros and vosotros forms changes from E to I , and O to U.

Some irregular yo form verbs are: • Conocer, caer, hacer, oir, poner, salir, venir, tener, traer, embellecer, conduciretc.

  7. USO DEL PRESENTE DEL SUBJUNTIVO Present subjunctive is used to express emotion, doubt, uncertainty, request, opinion, wish, recommendation, and indirect command. It is the mood of what may or might be. There are TWO PARTS of the sentence containing a subjunctive clause. • The main clauseuses the main verb expressing emotion, doubt, opinion, etc. in the present indicative. • The dependent clauseuses the verb in the present subjunctive. These two clauses are generally separated by QUEwhich translates into “that”. Queusually appears before the subjunctive.

  8. NOTE: The SUBJUNCTIVE is USED when the wish, doubt, hope etc. concerns someone or something other than the subject . EsperoqueMaríasaquebuenasnotas. I hope María gets good grades. Quieroquetúsaquesbuenasnotas. I want you to get good grades. Pedro quiereque Ana saquebuenasnotas. Pedro wants Ana to get good grades. NOTE: When the wish, doubt, hope etc. concerns the subject, an INFINITIVE CONSTRUCTION IS USED. EsperosacarbuenasnotasI hope to get good grades QuierosacarbuenasnotasI want to get good grades Pedro quieresacarbuenasnotas. Pedro wants to get good grades.

  9. NOTE: ALWAYS use the SUBJUNCTIVE after ojaláque Ojaláque mi madrecompregalletas Ojaláquesaqueunabuena nota en la prueba. NEVER use a subject before ojaláque.
