  2. Vision To be the premier international submarine cable authority providing leadership and guidance on issues related to submarine cable security and reliability

Prime Activities • Promote awareness of submarine cables as Critical Infrastructure, especially to other users of the seabed • Establish internationally agreed standards for cable installation, protection and maintenance • Monitor the evolution of international treaties and national legislation and help to ensure that submarine cable interests are fully protected

The Challenge of Change • Rapid development of offshore renewable energy • Increased incidence of damage caused by shipping • Seabed becoming crowded in some areas • Need to maintain harmony with other seabed users • Need to ensure harmony with seabed environment • Need to improve security of submarine cables

  6. ICPC Objectives – Industry Standards Develop & maintain submarine cable recommendations that define minimum standards for: • Route Planning • Installation • Operation • Maintenance • Protection • Retirement

ICPC Objectives - Education • Provide educational materials for the benefit of those who need to be informed about submarine cables and their role as Critical Infrastructure • Promote awareness of the strategic, economic and social benefits of submarine cables, especially to Government agencies, the fishing industry and other seabed users • Represent the submarine cable industry at government affiliated workshops • Provide relevant information to prospective new cable owners to encourage the adoption of minimum industry standards

ICPC Objectives – Information Sharing • Provide a forum for Members to interact and learn about legal, technical and environmental developments relevant to submarine cables • Identify areas of common interest where Members can benefit from working together • Develop affiliations with equivalent seabed user organisations • Develop formalrelationshipswith appropriate international organisations • Provide information to Members via password-protected area on website

  9. ICPC Objectives - Projects • Develop and maintain a global database showing fault causes and average repair times • Sponsor projects that are beneficial for the protection of submarine cable systems • Research the effects of submarine cables on the seabed environment

  10. ICPC Objectives - Law • Monitor the development of international treaties and national legislation • Advise and support Members when changes to the law are proposed that may affect submarine cables • Help to ensure ongoing compatibility and uniformity of the law with industry requirements
