WHILE reading the census information consider the following WITH YOUR PARTNER: • In what region of the country do you find the highest rates of voter participation/lowest? • What factors effect the likelihood that a person will vote? Race/ethnicity, education, amount of time a person has lived in a location, whether or not a person is a native or naturalized citizen, and socio-economic status. • Describe a typical voter/non-voter in the United States? • Gender • Location • Education • Income • Age • Occupation • What do the demographics imply about representative democracy in the United States?
