  1. Resource monitoring and discovery in OGSA Sergio Andreozzi Simone Ludwig

  2. OUTLINE • Modeling Grid Resources • Provide an architecture for: • Publishing, Discovering&Matchmaking, Monitoring, Auditing, Managing DataTAG WP4 meeting - Bologna - 14 jan 2003

  3. Modeling Grid Resources • Glue schema • superseeds EDG and Globus schemas • short term solution • CIM (GGF CGS WG is extending it) • (Candidate) Medium term solution for resource/service conceptual modeling • Open issues: • how to model quality of services/resources? • do we want to collaborate with CGS WG for CIM extensions? How? • how do we model OGSA services? DataTAG WP4 meeting - Bologna - 14 jan 2003

  4. Requirements for an OGSA-based discovery architecture • GSI-based authentication • Role based authorization • e.g. • a site manager is allowed to see everything • a user is allowed to access only its jobs and services status • a VO monitoring service is allowed to access its resource domain • Configurable data aggregation entity • Not just caching (e.g. view of monitoring data, view on a certain VO resources) DataTAG WP4 meeting - Bologna - 14 jan 2003

  5. ‘Smart’ discovery service • I’d like to ask: • What’s the best batch computing service I can access at the moment that can provide a certain computational power? • And tomorrow at 5 P.M.? • We need for: • Modeling quality of grid services • Inexact matchmaking • need for semantics (ontology) • More flexible monitoring&discovery service • better query model • easier schema management (in MDS, each schema change need to be installed in every GRIS/GIIS) DataTAG WP4 meeting - Bologna - 14 jan 2003

  6. Constraint monitoring • Based on • your credentials and permissions • You can access information for which you are authorized • A specified monitoring profile • specify what you want to monitor DataTAG WP4 meeting - Bologna - 14 jan 2003

  7. Near future • MDS 2.2 – last version before GT3 • In GT3 alpha, OGSI-fied MDS • OGSI-Compliant MDS Index Service (aka GIIS), supporting aggregation of information from MDS-2 GIISs and CIM providers. (Implemented in Java.) • In final GT3 ??? DataTAG WP4 meeting - Bologna - 14 jan 2003

  8. How can we contribute? • Maintain/extend the Glue schema • Collaborate with CGS WG for CIM extensions • Prototype for OGSA-based service discovery • Formalize a language for quality of service description • Explore OGSA-based service monitoring DataTAG WP4 meeting - Bologna - 14 jan 2003
