Different kinds of teams in SEND X-team: SEND missionary and local worker(s) working closely together in ministry Basketball team: works closely together and interacts constantly with each other about the goal Track team: has a common goal and support one another, but each person works independently

  9. Different kinds of teams in SEND X-team: partnership, deference, respect Basketball team: synergy, mentoring, complementary gifting Track team: fellowship, encouragement, supporting one another

  11. FER definition of teaming • Committed to common objective • Committed leader • Agreement on activities • Appreciation & loyalty • Shared responsibilities • Effective communication • Regular meetings • Acceptable compromises

What will be the challenges to good teaming on your field? • Different cultures on the team • Unrealistic expectations of other team members • Lack of choice for teammates • Home service transitions • Aligning individual passions with mission objectives • Unwillingness to follow mission leadership • Lack of willing or capable leaders

  14. Team leaders – Called but often Reluctant • Becoming a leader in SEND is often a sacrifice • SEND leaders were trained for other roles • SEND leaders want to learn to be better leaders

How can I help my team leader lead me? • Believe that your leader wants you to be successful • Share your calling, your ideas, your misunderstandings openly • Take initiative – don’t passively wait for instructions • Ask for feedback and suggestions • Listen carefully to your team leader’s suggestions • Recognize God’s leading often comes through organizational leadership • Pray for your team leader’s ministry

  17. Be a joy giver "Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you. " Hebrews 13:17

Aspects of supervision • Direction(vision, planning, assignments) • Development (mentoring, training, coaching) • Support(visas, housing, problem-solving) • Encouragement (listening, caring) • Assessment (monitoring and evaluating performance) Note: Every leader will be stronger in some areas than in others! Note #2: Not all of this will come from your team leader (s).

  19. Go! • 1. Nothing can be said besides the word "Go." • 2. You may not leave your spot unless someone has told you to go. • 3. You may only say "Go" if you've made eye contact with the person who needs your help.
