  3. HYDROGEN PEROXIDE AND WATER • Combine 2 oz hydrogen peroxide with 2 oz water. • Gargle and repeat up to 4 times a day. • Don’t swallow!

  4. MILK OF MAGNESIA & BENADRYL • Mix equal amounts of Milk of Magnesia and Benadryl Liquid Allergy Medicine. • Apply to canker sore with Q-tip. • Repeat several times a day, especially after eating or drinking. • Milk of Magnesia coats and protects the sore, Benadryl acts as anesthetic and antihistamine and reduces inflammation.

  5. BLACK TEA BAG • Wet a black tea bag and press it to canker sore. • Keep in place for up to 1 hour. • The tannins in black tea are an astringent and are known to relieve pain.

  6. BAKING SODA • Mix baking soda and water into a paste. • Apply it directly to your canker sore. • You can also mix ½ tsp with ½ cup water and gargle several times a day. Don’t swallow. • It may sting at first but it reduces bacteria in the mouth.

ALOE VERA GEL • Aloe vera contains vitamins, amino acids, phytonutrients, enzymes andother compounds. • Aloe can soothe, cool, protect and help heal canker sores. • Break off a fresh leave from aloe vera plant and squeeze out gel. • Or buy pure aloe vera gel at a health food store. Make sure it’s pure with no additives. • Apply to mouth sore with Q-tip 3-4 times a day. • It can be used as a mouthwash too.

  8. ALUM • Alum crystals can be found in the spice section of your grocery store. • Dip a wet Q-tip in alum and apply it to your canker sore. • Caution: it will sting, then you will feel the ahh of relief. • Alum can relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and help sores heal faster.

  9. LICORICE ROOT EXTRACT • Licorice root extract reduces inflammation and speeds healing. Sores usually heal in 3-5 days. • It forms a protective coating on mouth ulcers and soothes them. • Buy licorice root extract oral patches called Cankermelt at drugstores or online. • Patches are tasteless and non-numbing. • Apply patch to your sore. Make sure your mouth is dry. It will dissolve in several hours then apply a new one.

  10. CAYENNE PEPPER • Cayenne contains capsaicin. It can temporarily de-sensitize the nerve endings. It may help reduce the pain and inflammation of your mouth ulcer. • Dab a little cayenne on a Q-tip and apply it to your canker sore. Reapply as needed.

  11. APPLE CIDER VINEGAR & ALOE VERA JUICE • ACV is a favorite home remedy for many ailments. • Mix 1 TBSP. apple cider vinegar with 2 TBSP aloe vera juice. • Swirl the mixture around your mouth then spit it out. • Repeat up to 4 times a day.

BEE PROPOLIS • Propolis is a waxy, gummy substance harvested from bee hives. • Propolis has been used for 1000’s of years as an antiseptic, anti-inflammatory & healing aid. • It cauterizes mouth ulcers and stops pain. • 3-5% propolis cream, tincture, and mouthwash can be found in health stores. • Check with your Dr. if taking blood thinners or antiviral medications.

VITAMIN B-12 • A study at Ben Gurion University found that taking 1000mcg Vitamin B12 nightly was very effective. • Study members had less pain, fewer canker sores and they healed faster. • By the end of the 6th-month study 74 percent had remission and stopped getting mouth sores. • Buy a 1000mcg supplement from the health food store. It’s hard to get enough B-12 from food or a multi-vitamin.
