  1. 3 Things Part-Timers Expect From a Job Hire Temporary Staffing Singapore, or more commonly known as part-timers, are easy to source out. The process of sourcing that many companies adopt is to assess their past job experiences and skill sets. This two-step method passes off as a safe method of sourcing, but it does not guarantee the part-timer as a perfect match for the role offered. Although these part-time staff are only contracted for a short duration, it is still imperative for companies to understand what this group of individuals seek to gain. In the past, upon contracting the part-timers, companies assess the compatibility of the part-timer to the job to determine if there is a need for them to be replaced. But companies need to know that the tables have turned. Part-timers are now educated and are aware of what they want and expect to gain from their participation in these short stints. A simple survey targeting part-timers and freelancers was posted online to dig deeper into their minds. The results found were not astronomical, but often overlooked by employers. How do we know this? An interview mainly consists of the company representative shooting commands such as “Tell me more about yourself and your past job experiences”. How often do we hear the representative ask the interviewee questions like “What do you expect to gain from working with our company?” Hardly. So, here are the top 3 things that part-timers expect to get out of temporary jobs. 1. Money 91% of part-timers between the age of 17-30 years old expect reasonable remuneration above everything else. This expectation is normal from all employees, both full-time and part-time. Nobody wants to receive an executive’s salary when they are given a director’s job. A few years back, the hourly pay rate can go as low as $6/hour, depending on the job. But times have changed, and employer expectations are now higher, hence the lowest you can find on the job market is $8/hour. Hourly pay rate can easily go up to $12/hour for jobs that are tougher and require part-time staff with more experience. This does not include event talents and models, who are on a whole another level. Their remuneration can range between $30-$60/hour.

  2. Therefore, companies should look into doing research on what other employers are offering for similar positions to avoid underpaying their part-timers. Remuneration offered should match the time commitment and tasks assigned. 2. Experience Second on the list is experience! A whopping 90% of part-timers involve themselves in short-term jobs to chalk up experience. This is understandable because the majority are fresh graduates, NSmen or individuals who are in between jobs. Although fresh graduates and NSmen are newly introduced to the working world, they are fully aware that employers naturally look for applicants with the most relevant experience to fill their full-time positions. So, individuals take advantage of short-term jobs during their free time to build up and accumulate experiences while they wait for their full-time applications to be reviewed. The question still remains - why is it important for employers to acknowledge part-timers who are keen to acquire experience for a full-time job through short stints? It shows that they are eager to learn, as compared to individuals who are just in it for the remuneration or to kill time. It should be evident from the way they express their interest during the interview. 3. Exposure Last but not least, exposure! Being new to the working world, fresh graduates may not know what they want to make as a career. So, this is the time for the part-timers to partake in part-time jobs under the various industries. Each job is not the same and the different experiences they gain can be used for their own comparison to determine what industry they want to be in. Employers should be eager to Hire Part-Time Manpower Singapore who are looking for exposure because it means that they are open to any line of work and thirsty to absorb new information and experience. This does not mean that employers can just throw any job that they have. The part-timers should be given a choice, if possible, of the different roles you have available at the moment that suits their disposition. For the high achievers, taking part in jobs like conferences and exhibitions can give them an insight of the different companies that are in line with their full-time job expectations. It is okay to encourage them in their exploration, but they should not take advantage of the time at work to approach these companies. Apart from money, experience, and exposure, there are many more reasons why part-timers partake in short-term jobs. It is not just a two-step method. Employing part-timers may seem like an easy task, but a lot of effort and
