  1. Business computing18 november 2003 Preparation for the mid-term exam of next week

  2. Prerequisites • In a business school we have to learn to type with 10 (or 9) fingers • because we will have plenty of papers to prepare • and typed papers give a much better image of us than handwritten papers

  3. Word : keyboard equivalents • The keyboard equivalent to « copy » is Ctrl + C (you have to select a piece of text first) • For paste : it is Ctrl + V • Example : « Here is a text. » • For cancel : Ctrl + Z • Select All : Ctrl + A

  4. Word : toolbars • Names of 6 toolbars : • Menu bar • Standard bar • Formatting bar • Etc.

  5. Word : • How to transform the pointer into a question mark ? Ans : Shift + F1 • What is it for ? Ans : to get a short explanation about an icon

  10. Excel cells • A cell has three characteristics : • An address (eg « D5 ») • A content (eg « =A1*B3 ») • A name (eg « product ») • When there is no specific name, a cell has a default name : its address • Copying with the $ sign

  11. Conditional formatting • Within Excel let’s display a cell with a format (for instance a color) that depends upon the result of the formula inside : • Use conditional formatting (in the format item of the menu bar)

Dynamic links • When we paste dynamically a table from Excel into Word, then Word displays numbers extracted from Excel (they are not typed within Word) • The same is true with the online catalog of Camif : • the prices are not typed within the Web pages, they are extracted from a database at the time of our request.
