  1. So, you’re interested in Nursing at Roanoke Chowan Community College? Student Information Session Fall 2012

  2. Step 1: • You must first apply to the college, and take the placement test if required. • Applications to the college are available on campus, and online. • Remember to request official transcripts from high school and all colleges that you may have attended.

  3. Step 2: • Complete any developmental courses as recommended based on your placement test scores up to and including Math 070 and or up to Eng 095 with a grade of “C” or higher. • Complete Chemistry 094 & Biology 094 with a grade of “C” or higher. • These courses are not required if you have taken and earned a minimum grade of “C” in a high school chemistry or biology course within the last 5 years.

  4. Step 3 • Obtain your CNA I certification • CNA courses are available here at Roanoke Chowan Community College through our Continuing Education/Allied Health Dept. These courses are generally 8 weeks in length and are offered at various times throughout the year including the summer. • For specific questions regarding the CNA program you may contact Jamie Burns @ 862-1261.

  5. Step 3 continued • RCCC Nursing Department must be able to verify your CNA registration through the NC state CNA registry by August 1 for those entering during the Fall 2013 semester. Those entering during the Fall 2014 semester, must have CNA registration with the state of North Carolina by April 15th. • Your CNA registration must remain current throughout your enrollment in the nursing program.

  6. Step 4: • After completion of prerequisite courses with a grade of “C” or higher, you must APPLY TO THE NURSING PROGRAM. • The Nursing Department accepts applications beginning November 1st and closes the application period at noon on February 1st for Fall admission. • Applications are/will be available online. Please complete your application and return it BY MAIL to: Roanoke Chowan Community College Nursing Department 109 Community College Road Ahoskie, NC 27910 • No faxed, hand delivered, or emailed applications will be accepted. Please allow adequate time for your application to reach us by the February 1st deadline.

  7. STEP 5 • Obtain CPR Certification by: August 1st (Fall 2013) • April 1st (Fall 2014) • **When scheduling your class please remember that cards are not always available immediately after the course. Please allow enough time, so that your card is available as proof of certification by the deadline. • CPR certification must be obtained through an approved American Heart Association or American Red Cross course. We will not accept certification from any other sources. • Your CPR certification must remain current throughout your enrollment in the nursing program.

  8. Application Processing: • Once the application period has closed: • Transcripts are evaluated by the Registrar. Credit for any transfer courses will be given. GPA calculations are obtained from the Registrar’s Office. • Minimum GPA for admission: 2.5 • GED scores • High School Transcripts (If you have earned less than 12 college credits) • Or the last four college semesters • Does not include Developmental, ACA, or PE Courses.

  9. Application Processing • Applicants who have taken all prerequisite courses, and have met the GPA requirement will receive information (Mid February)about how to register for the TEAS test (Mid March). • http://www.testpreppractice.net • Candidates must successfully pass the TEAS test. If initially unsuccessful, applicants are eligible to retake the test one additional time for admission for the upcoming fall.

  10. Application Processing: • Applicants who have achieved the minimum passing score on the TEAS test will then be required to submit a completed Health Profile Form by April 15th. • ***Depending on the availability of your provider, you may need to schedule your exam before you take the TEAS test to ensure that your Health Forms are received by the deadline.

  11. Application Processing: • After review of all admission requirements, you will receive a letter of unconditional acceptance into the nursing program. The letter will contain information about the • MANDATORY orientation session • Uniform Fittings • Supplies and Book Lists
