La Tomatina or Tomato War Festival is an annual festival of Spanish society. This food fight festival is held on the last Wednesday of August each year in the town of Bunol, Valencia, Spain.
History At first, this tomato throwing event is not a festival. Some residents say that they were not satisfy with City Council and threw them with tomatoes. They enjoyed it and repeated the next year, and the year after that, and so on. But they were not threw the tomatoes to City Council. They threw the tomatoes each other. This event became an annual festival on 1952.
Preparations One week before the festival, organizing committee held a parade of music, dance and fireworks. And the night before festival, all the female participants competed in contest of cooking paella. Other preparations, each store alongside a road covered with large plastic in order to easy cleaning after the festival ended.
About 125 tons tomatoes are used in this festival and transported with truck. Only rotten tomatoes can be used, especially grown in Extremadura and never be eaten or sold. Preparations
