  2. GPA Requirement • Maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher • Your GPA will be checked at the end of the Fall Semester • If you are below a 3.5, you will be placed on probation for the 3rd marking period. • If you fail to bring up your GPA by the 4th marking period, you will be removed from NHS

  3. Disciplinary Reports • It is very important that you behave and act in accordance with our character guidelines. Avoid any behaviors that could result in a discipline report as outlined in the Indian Guide. • Any member who receives an official disciplinary report will be formally notified in writing and will be reviewed by the Faculty Council. • The member then has the right either to accept the disciplinary charges and disciplinary action of the Faculty Council or to request a due process hearing. • Disciplinary action determined by the Faculty Council may result in probation or removal from National Honor Society membership. • A second infraction will result in automatic removal.

  4. Mandatory Meeting Attendance • You are required to attend each monthly meeting • If you are involved in sports, you are expected to attend all meetings. • Let your coach know in advance that your attendance is required. • If you have a game scheduled the day of a meeting, you are excused from the meeting. You must see me prior to the meeting and pick up a meeting agenda the following day. • Please try to arrange your work schedule around our meeting dates. • If you are unable to attend a meeting for any reason you must see me prior to the meeting and pick up an agenda the following day.

  7. NHS Sponsored Activities • Each member is expected to chair at least one NHS sponsored event during the school year. Two or three members will be responsible for each event. • Major Events include the Mum Sale (Sept.), Crop Walk (Oct.), Food Drive (Nov.-Dec.), Adopt-A-Family (Dec.), Clothing Drive (Jan.), Daffodil Days (March), MS Movers (March), Induction Certificates, Programs and Food. (May-June) • Members will be assigned a homeroom that will be checked during certain events (Food and Clothing Drives) • Each member will be required to create a poster for the Mum Sale, Food Drive, and Clothing Drive. • Information will be distributed at meetings or via email. • Failure to participate in a required activity will result in additional hours of service being added to your 20 required hours.

  8. Participation in School Activities • NHS is involved in a wide range of school sponsored activities that members are expected to volunteer for. These activities include: • Freshman orientation, open house, conference calls, academic awards and blue and gold set up, graduation, peer tutoring, football ticket takers, life skills classroom, Upper Perk ½ Marathon • Sign ups for these activities usually take place at the monthly meetings • You are not expected to participate in all activities, but you are expected to volunteer when needed. • Pre-approved school activities may count toward your total service hours but you must participate in at least one community service activity.

  9. Service Project Requirement • Each NHS student is mandated by the national organization to perform a minimum 20 hour service project during each year of their NHS membership. • The majority of your service hours must come from this project. You may use the pre approved service hour to cover the last few hours if needed. • You are not limited to one activity and may complete several for your total hours. • For each service activity you plan to complete you must fill out a separate activity form. • You must carry out this project between May 1st of the previous school year and April 30th of the current school year. You may not receive compensation or academic credit for this project.

  10. Email & NHS Wikispace • It is very important that you check your email on a regular basis. • The majority of information concerning NHS events will be sent out over email. • Please make sure your email is correct and if you did not receive an email concerning the meeting let me know. • NHS wikispace is a great resource of information. It includes all event sign ups, calendar for the school sign, and service forms. • Please visit the wikispace and request membership. http://nhs.upsd.wikispaces.net/ • Username: graduation year, first 3 letters of first name, first 3 letters of last name (ex. 12colphi) • Password: Student ID number
