Principles for Developing Options • Provision of palliative care across HNE Health • Options for non-recurrent funding • Options for hospital and community care • Provision of home-like atmosphere to support patient and families in hospital • Capacity building for staff to provide paediatric palliative care • Access to discretionary fund

Options for Palliative Care – Capital Works JHCH • Two space options • single rooms (J1 and H1) at either end of school room • modifications within these rooms, school room, family room opposite the H1 room and some modifications to the school room in J2 • Tamworth Base Hospital • Modifications to existing area in the Children’s ward • Removal of existing petitions in a 2 bed ward, changes to plumbing and painting • Maitland and Manning Base Hospitals • Painting

Options for Palliative Care – FFE JHCH • Includes overhead tracking, air conditioning pressure status conversion in H1 room and necessary furniture, fittings and equipment to support the patient and provide a home-like atmosphere for the patient and families. Tamworth Base Hospital • Overhead tracking, air-conditioning, necessary furniture, fittings and equipment Maitland and Manning Base Hospitals • Painting , Overhead tracking, necessary furniture, fittings and equipment Community Equipment Support • Equipment for at home care across Area • System managed by PADP

Example of equipment requirements - JHCH • Overhead lifting device( allow safe transfer of patient from bed to chair ) • Electric beds ( capable of holding 260 kgs) with paediatric specific mattresses • Recessed medical gases and medical equipment located behind the head of the bed ( covered behind discrete paneling - can be opened up as needed) • Additional data and electrical outlets • Paediatric specific bathing and transfer equipment • Pressure relieving equipment including massage/ water chair, gel pressure cushions • Ceiling mounted bedside screens with specific designed bed screens • Bedside tables suitable for paediatrics • Non- touch clinical handwash and shower system

  7. Options for Palliative Care – Training • For paediatric staff - training in palliative care including options for transitioning to adult services; • For palliative care staff - training in paediatric care; • Development of a volunteer program to support palliative care for children and young people; • A scholarship for a clinician to obtain training in Paediatric Palliative, potentially named after Nicholas Butters

  8. Options for Palliative Care – Discretionary Funding • Support for children and families who are receiving palliative care services in the Area • One-off purchases for equipment, travel and other services • Fund administered by HNE Health with criteria established by HNE Health in consultation with the Nicholas Trust
