  10. Goal • To give a clear picture on: • IPv4 pool depletion and coexistence with IPv6 to the end user • To convey the users’ messages and opinions back to the technical community and the decision makers

  11. Objectives • To create a useful tool to help engage and inform the Internet Using Public about the issue • To advise ICANN Board on the issue from the perspective of the Internet Using Public

Main Issues • IPv4 addresses are running out, but IPv4 network is not going away • IPv6 has to co-exist with IPv4 network – not transition or migration (only) • How do we do it without breaking the Internet’s end to end connectivity? • Challenges are broad and deep • Technical, operational, economic, policy, business, user

Background Description • IPv4 address pool to expire around 2010 • Measures are taken by technical community including NRO/address community, but much has to be done by all operators of global Internet and decision makers • ALAC made statement at ASO Workshop at ICANN LA meeting in Nov 2007, calling for further collaboration • Workshop on IPv4v6 at IGF in Rio, Dec 07 • IA Japan, IIS – U. Tama, ISOC, JPNIC, JAIPA, NRO, GLOCOM + Gov of Japan, business community

  14. Planed activities • Organize workshop at coming ICANN meetings starting from Paris • Invite experts/stakeholders and policy makers • Ask questions of mutual interest • Monitor the developing activities • Prepare an Issue Paper?

  15. Timeframe – for 2008 • Feb Finalize Action Plan • Ask for Issue Paper? • May prepare Short Position Paper? • Jun Workshop at Paris meeting • Nov Workshop at Africa meeting • Dev Workshop at IGF in Delhi?
