  • Going clockwise towards extraction

    • Yellow = Inj. Kicker1

    • Pink = Ext. Kicker1

    • Green = Ext. Kicker2

    • Magenta = beam

  • Action of injection kicker too early to be seen

  • Magenta spikes = turns

  • Effect of extraction clearly visible

  • Image seen on first YAG screen in extraction / diagnostic line 

  • Extract at every turn !

  • Cannot reach YAG-02 or any after it …

  • Cannot even reach second BPM …

  • Septum aperture clearly seen

  • We see beam on BPM-01

  • Beam centred (+/-) on YAG-01

  • Tried many (though not all …) combinations of quads on & off

  • BPM-02 not working correctly

    • BPM-01 & 02 changed at source for next run

  • SLIT-01 somehow in the way

    • Slit moving when light on YAG-01 & it is out so this should not be the problem - checked

  • All YAGs have metallised coating on one side

    • Could it be the wrong way around ? To be checked

  • Obstruction in the beam pipe ?

    • Only extraction line, could open up - to be checked

  • Quad scan on YAG-01 & re-match from there ?

  • Quadrupole misalignment ? Other ?

  • K1 & K2 occur at time t1

  • Revolution time ~ 55 ns

  • Orbits → outside as energy increases

  • Set 18.5 MeV/c equivalent first (higher ?)

  • Make sure 18.5 MeV/c set-up optimised

  • Set extraction kickers (K3 & K4) and septum to:

  • Time t1 + ~ 25 × 55 / 42 ns + N × 55 ns

  • Pick good setting with many turns (~ 50 or more)

  • Try several other values of N

  • Set extraction line at 12 MeV/c

  • Look on YAG23 to make sure beam towards outside as expected

  • Change septum & kicker strengths until something is seen on YAG-01 in extraction

  • Make sure beam as centred as possible down extraction line

  • Look at YAG-02 in extraction

  • Do not accelerate at first

  • Repeat for many equivalent energies (10 – 20 MeV) & extract to 12 MeV extraction line

  • Save settings throughout & compare to model

  • Last BPM in injection line currently used as trigger so, from LeCroy scope, re-cable and:

    • Set timing of K1 with this BPM as trigger then

    • Use K1 as trigger for extraction

  • Set the timing of the extraction septum by:

    • Ch 1: Injection septum, Ch 2: Extraction septum

  • Then:

    • Ch 1: K3, Ch 2: K4, Ch 3: BPM E23, Ch 4: K2, Aux : K1

  • I have been told there are five (already labelled) cables available: 3 for extraction magnets & 2 spares

  • Extraction with acceleration:

    • Set 12 MeV/c in extraction line as before

    • Set cavities to right crest & zero volts

    • Put bunch in bucket

    • Extract beam as before (1/2 turn & multi-turn)

    • Look at YAG-01 in extraction line

    • Slowly increase cavity volts until bunch leaves YAG-01

    • Set 18.5 MeV/c in extraction line

    • Estimate number of turns required to achieve this

    • Inject real 12.5 MeV/c beam

    • Extract with YAG-01 & then YAG-02
