  3. That’s right! Mishloach Manos is one of the 4 special Mitzvos of Purim! We give Mishloach Manos during the day of Purim, not at night. We give 2 types of food to at least one person. The foods may be the same bracha, but not the same types of food.

  4. Click to see how many times must we hear the Megillah! 2

  5. Correct! Since Purim is on Thursday, March 8 this year, we hear the Megillah on Wednesday night and on Thursday morning. No talking from the first brachas until the after the last brachah! Make sure to hear EVERY word!

  6. Click to see when should one eat a festive meal. At midnight In the middle of the day After the sun sets As soon as you wake up

  7. You Got It! We eat a festive meal because the whole story of Purim revolved around parties. Remember to say “Al Hanissim” in bentching! (and davening!)

  8. Click to see how much money should one give for tzedakah (matanosl’evyonim) ½ Shekel $1,000,000 To 2 people, enough to make a festive meal 2¢

  9. Wonderful! Giving Tzedakah brings people closer together. Purim is about unity among the Jewish People. Try to give the Tzedakah early in the day, so that the poor people will have time to buy food for their meal. In many communities, there is someone who takes care of collecting this money and distributing it to the poor on Purim. On Purim, we give Tzedaka to anyone who asks.

  10. Hamantaschen Recipe Ingredients: 2/3 cup pareve margarine or butter1/2 cup sugar1 egg1/2 teaspoon vanilla2 1/2-3 cups sifted unbleached all-purpose flour1 teaspoon baking powderDash of salt 1.      Cream the shortening with sugar. Add egg and continue creaming until smooth.2.      Add the vanilla. Stir in the sifted flour, baking powder, and salt until a ball of dough is formed (a food processor is excellent for this).3.      Chill for 2-3 hours, or overnight.4.      Preheat oven to 375 degrees.5.      Taking 1/4 of the dough, roll out on a lightly floured board to a thickness of 1/8 inch. Cut circles of dough with a drinking glass or round cookie-cutter. With your finger put water around the rim of the circle. Fill with 1 teaspoon poppy-seed or nut filling and fold into three-cornered cookies. (Press two sides together, and then fold the third side over and press the ends together.)6.      Bake on a well-greased cookie sheet 10-16 minutes, until the tops are golden.

  11. Fun Facts • The story of the Megillah took place over 10 years! • According to the Medrash, Esther was 74 years old when she became Queen! • Haman was hanged on the 2nd day of Pesach, not on Purim! • The night that Achashveirosh couldn’t sleep was the first night of Pesach! • All of the letters of the Aleph-Bais are found in one passuk in the Megillah (Chapter 3, Verse 13) • The longest Passuk in the whole of Tanach is in the Megillah (Chapter 8, Verse 9)
