  1. Focus Question: What makes a shadow?

  2. -You need a light source to make a shadow. -Some light sources are lamps, lightbulbs, candles, fire, and the Sun.

  3. -Let's think back to the exploration of the flashlight. -What happened when a hand was in front of the light? -What was the hand doing to the light? -The dark, hand-shaped area was a shadow.

  4. -Shadows may be created when any type of light shines. -Shadows are created by natural light and artificial light. -The Sun is an example of natural light. -A lamp is an example of artificial light.

  5. -What did we use to make shadows indoors? -What did we use to make shadows outdoors? -You need a _____ source and an _____ to block the _____ to make a ______.

  6. -I want to give you a challenge. -When you go home, find interesting objects around the house and create shadows with them. -Have fun experimenting!!!
