  4. The aim of the project: topredispose an autobiographical activity inside penitentiaries for promoting and encouraging the reconsideration of one’s own past and re-planning one’s future “beyond the bars”.

Our target group: - the adults from penitentiary The adults are a very various group: • By age and maturity • By educational experience • By ethnical, social or cultural category or their provenience • By school intelligence • By sex and responsibilities regarding the family • By occupation and professional responsibilities • By self confidence level • By implication and dedication level in a specific activity • By learning objectives • By style and preference for learning

Objectives: • Creating a space for reflection about specific topics in order to let the detainees re-define their own life after the experience in prison ; • Strengthening identity and self-esteem; • Encouraging and motivating the detainees to describe their personal experiences and to communicate – on a European context too – the hardships of life inside prisons ; • Comparing the results of the project GRUDTVIG to similar experiences in other European penitentiaries; • Communicating the produced work to the regional networks operating inside the penitentiaries; • Divulging the produced paper and multimedia supports in conclusion of the same project; • Sharing the results of the project with the European partners involved; • Making the chosen methodology (autobiography) a common didactic practice in the educational processes destined to detained adults.

Results and impact: The project will “collect” the experiences of members of target grup (through the history of episods of self life): • for discovering news perspectives and opportunities for replanning owne’s future; The exchange of experiences and produced materials realized through project will make to: for promoting and encouraging the reconsideration of one’s own past and re-planning one’s future “beyond the bars”. involved of educational staff aware of the adopted the methodologies, improving their own professional skills.

The educational practice of autobiography: • Will be a way for self-reflection and self-understanding; • A way for dedefinition of own identity, for research of own past life before detention of different “individualities”, to help to involvement of presoneers to give a semnification to actual their life and, consequance, for replanning their own future; • Through the staff of penitentiary and teachers, and also trough the dynamical involvement of narrator subject and of receptor-researcher, the learners will trace their self drum and will assure a new way, new significations of their futures self experiences; • The exchange of experiences and produced materials will make the involved teaching staff aware of the adopted methodologies, improving their own professional skills; • The project will be integrated in the current activities of partner institutions and organisations through the involvement of autobiographical practices as methodology in lifelong learning activities.

The educational practice of autobiography: • The writing represents, in circumstances of penitentiary: • one creative activity of a person; • one modality for detainees to create their own “space” of freedom; • one modality to understating the over time, to encouraging these persons to reconsider one’s own past and to re-planning one’s future after detention. The detainees’ past life is often discontinuous and fragmentary.

Expected impact – added value: • On the organizations /institutions participating in the Learning Partnership as a whole: • Promoting activities for the social access and placement of the detainees; • Integrating in the institutional practices the working procedures experimented in the course of the project. Planning new perspectives and opportunities for the detainees’ post-prison life: • Strengthening identity and self-esteem; • Analysis of the methodological competences concerning the use of biography; • Proposal of solutions for those difficulties deriving from complicated situations in professional and personal experiences. • On the local community / region where each organization / institution is located: • Making the local Community aware and sensible to the social access and placement of the detainees; • Promoting the activities of the volunteers’ associations operating in penitentiaries; • Drawing up programs for the professional placement of the detainees in their post imprisonment lives.
