  2. Uniform • Short sleeve, gray/black or event provided • Black trousers and black belt (if trousers have belt loop) • Black socks, black gym or wrestling shoes (no logo) • Black whistle, flip disc, armbands (red on left, green on right)

  3. Pre-Match Duties (Dual) • Arrive a half hour early • Inspect mat and facility (chairs, scoreboard, find the bano!) • Groom check “Wrestlers properly equipped?” • Review with score table • Flip disc for reporting requirements • Make sure coaches and wrestlers display proper sportsmanship

  4. Pre-Match Duties (Tournament) • Find your crew • Find the tournament director, if needed • Inspect facilities and mats • Groom check • Rotation of officials • Score table crew. • Reporting requirements for misconduct etc…

  5. Mat Position • On start of neutral, top/bottom, post match, during time outs. • Circle the edge of the mat • Anticipating movement of wrestlers and out of bounds • Stay out of the action • Follow wrestlers in, don’t turn your back! • In position to see locking, potentially dangerous, illegal holds, near fall, pins…

  6. Hand Signals • Starting the match • Stopping the match • Takedown (?) • Escape • Near fall • Illegal holds and misconduct • Injury, blood, and other time-outs. • Control

  7. Mat Control / Judgment and Knowledge • You can prevail in 99% of questioned calls if you know the rules and are in position • Demonstrating knowledge of the rules and casebook will earn respect and help • Accepting reasonable suggestions and input will help you earn respect and on the mat with your calls • Watch videos. Ask questions. Read the casebook and rulebook • This is a profession and you have to step it up!

  8. Evaluation • Officials are evaluated based on the following elements: • Presence • Match Control • Positioning • Judgment and Knowledge of the rules • Assistant Referee • There is a form used for our association on line. Ask for the link.
