  1. A marine vessel is made of iron and several other metals that are prone to corrosion in seawater. Sea strainers provide your boat with an additional layer of protection against the ocean.  These strainers filter out the junk from the water that is used to cool the boat’s engine. However, sea strainers are also made of corrosion-prone metals, and you need to take preventive measures to save your sea strainers from rust.  According to marine corrosion experts, reliance anodes (sacrificial) play an important role in protecting sea strainers from rust and extending their longevity. Here is some important information on how sacrificial anodes protect sea strainers from corrosion. Reliance Anodes to Save Your Sea Strainers from Rust

  2. What Are Sacrificial Anodes? Reliance anodes are metal-strips of top-order metals like aluminum and zinc in the reactivity series. These metal strips are installed for cathode protection and serve as anodes in the sea strainers. The sacrificial anode is divided into two parts – the Anode body and Anode insert. The anode body serves as an anode in electrolysis mode while the anode insert is used to fit the anode body on the parts which need to be protected.

  3. How Sacrificial Anode Works to Prevent Rust? The sacrificial anode protects the metal of the sea strainers from corroding. The reliance anode oxidizes quickly than the metal of the sea strainer. The result is the sacrificial anode's metal is consumed quickly by the electrolysis of water, and there are no electrolytes left to oxidize these strainer's metal body.

  4. Marine vessels have outdrives in saltwater which is prone to corrosion. A stern-drive engine is attached through transom to a drive known as outdrive, which is located on the lower unit of the outboard in a marine vessel. The engine turns the outdrives, which in turn rotates the propeller at the end.  Outdrives in saltwater suffer from severe corrosion and may need early replacements. Many people think the electricity system on the boat is not related to corrosion of outdrive.
