  2. Introduction • There were many wars and battles during the Civil War • More people died in this war than any other war in American history • The war started over slavery

  3. Similar both both unhappy with the draft Union and Confederate difference Union wore dark blue jackets, light blue pants, regular blue caps, and black shoes. Confederates wore long gray shirts, light blue pants, and gray jackets The Union and Confederate Armies

  4. The Battle of Bull Run • The first battle of Bull Run took place on July 21, 1861 • The Union was lead by General Irvin McDowell • The Confederates were lead by Thomas J. Jackson • Thomas J. Jackson’s nickname was “Stonewall”.

  5. The Battle of Gettysburg • The Union was lead by General George Grant who lead them to high ground near Gettysburg • The Confederates were lead by Robert E. Lee • The Union Army won the battle of Gettysburg and their first battle

  6. Technology The Union used hot air balloons. The Confederates used the telegraph Tactics The Union used the hot air balloons to watch and see if their enemies are going to attack The Confederates used the telegraph to call and tell if the enemies are attacking Military Tactics and Technology

  7. Combat Conditions • President Lincoln spent the early years of the war looking for a general to lead the Union • Robert E. Lee was elected to be general of the Union but declined • but he did accept to lead the Union

  8. NORTH In the North the medical care was pretty good The North had better medical care than the South SOUTH The South had poor medical care Since the South had such poor medical care more people would die Medical Care

  9. NORTH The north ate Hard Track Hard Track is a type of biscuit made from flour and water SOUTH The South made coffee They made coffee out of a root called chicory and boiled it coffee was their favorite hot drink Food and Drink

  10. Conditions on the Home Front • there was a draft that all people were upset about • it affected the wives they did not know if there husbands would come back alive • the South was upset about the draft • most all wars were settled in the South

  11. From Gettysburg to Appomattox • genr. Grant lead the Union to victory • The Union won • the south did not all die genr. grant was so nice
