  3. Objectives for Professionalism By the end of year 5, the student should be able to demonstrate: • An understanding of the psychological,socioeconomic, cultural, and spiritual dimensions of human health and illness

  4. The ability to implement the plan of care in a professional fashion with sensitivity to patient diversity and values • The ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with patients and colleagues

  5. An understanding of the ethical dimensions of the physician-patient relationship and of the ethical dilemmas during patient encounters • An understanding of the obligations to patients, the profession, and society inherent in the practice of medicine

  6. The clinical virtues of trustworthiness, respect for others, excellence, duty, honor and integrity, humility and accountability, and compassion • An understanding and knowledge of oneself, including the limits of one’s knowledge, skills, and values

  7. The ability to learn independently with a critical awareness of the limits of one’s knowledge, skills, and values (self reflection/assessment) • Develop the ability to practice evidence based medicine

  8. An awareness of maintaining one’s own well-being and balancing the demands of professional and personal life (Stress management) • An appreciation of Arts and literature as a means to inculcate professionalism

  11. FOM 1 DELIVERY

  12. ASSESSMENT of FOM 1 Knowledge/awareness: self-rated Retrospective-pre to assess their awareness before and after the FOM 1

  13. Subsequent assessment during system based modules and clerkships: • ‘Reflective Writing’ as a tool and make appropriate comments and suggestions about that scenario. These writings will be assessed by previously trained faculty. They will be required to submit 2 such encounters every 8 weeks during their rotations. • Knowledge and applicability will be assessed in the subsequent modules with MCQs pertaining to ethical issues addressed in them. • Skills regarding communicating patients, posed ethical dilemmas, end of life issues will be assessed by OSCES at end of module. • Student attitudes regarding importance of bio-ethics will be assessed by conducting a survey at periodic intervals while in clerkships.

  14. CURRICULAR PROGRAM EVALUATION FOR FOM 1: • Module will be evaluated at various levels as determined by Kirkpatrick model. Level-1 (Reaction): • feedback forms based on subjective personal reaction to the training experience • Informal feedback sessions which can be noted and analyzed • Verbal or written reports given by faculty to course coordinators

Attitudes for all Years: To be able to 1- understand the importance of providing evidence based care to the patients 2- know the importance of patient’s values and preferences in clinical care 3- develop a level of comfort with technology use in clinical practice.4- self reflect for improving patient care 5- identify his/her own limitation in medical practice
