Whatis the SDF? • The SDF aims at stimulating actions from civil society (associations, cooperatives, CBOs, NGOs, local committees) in efforts to enhance economy, reduce poverty and improve quality of life. • The SDF supports income generating activities and the development of basic services in Nigeria.

  4. Funds are provided to support projects which meet SDF criteria and objectives and have the best chance of making an impact • Applicants are responsible for the implementation of their projects. The SDF section (French Embassy) monitors and follows up the funded projects.

Objectives • To enhance livelihood of the underprivileged population • To strengthen capacities of civil representative organisations in order to promote pro-poor changes, thereby reducing poverty in the long run National Union for the Blind, february 2009. Expansion of Magami special school for the handicapped

  6. A broad range of potential actions • From: a yam flour enterprise project; • To: improved market facilities. A local initiative undertaken by a group of entrepreneurs; Civil Society Centre for Empowerment, June 2009

  8. Achievements so far More than 100 projects have been supported so far by the SDF See map of the financed projects on the following page

  9. New projects which started in January 2010. Achievements so far… Funded projects in 2008. Their implementation is on going. Enhancing the technical skills of small holder poultry producers in North western Nigeria. To increase honey production of more than 450 beekeepers in order to commercialise honey bags and develop an organic honey keenel market in Kaduna State Popularisation of fuel efficient cooking stoves Learning Centre for rural communities Implementation of a hygiene scheme School for orphans Expansion of a special school for the handicapped Centre for cosmetics production Training centre on fish-farming Primary school construction Yam flour Micro entreprise project Creation of a processing unit of raw material (such as yam, cassava and plantains) into flour to make fufu and garri, a food pasta which is the base of local meals. Creation of palm oil production section Rehabilitation of central market Socio economic reinsertion of Bakassi returnees Mobile Assistance & Day Care Centre for street children in Port Harcourt

  11. Main eligibility criteria • Who is eligible? Private entities (associations, cooperatives, CBOs, NGOs, local committees) and local public entities • Which kinds of projects are eligible? It should be micro projects encouraging: • the social and economic insertion of disadvantaged groups • The creation and development of income generating activities • The improvement of health conditions of underprivileged persons • The improvement of water conditions (sanitation, access to drinking water)

Application steps • As soon as possible and until mid-November, send us an email or a letter (see contacts on the last page) explaining briefly: • Who you are (kind of association, main activities); • The project you want to develop with the support of the SDF, with a short synopsis of the project and a description of the final beneficiaries

  13. Application steps (2) • Upon reception of your message, the SDF will send you a complete application form • This application form must be sent back to the SDF between October, 13th 2010 and November, 26th 2010

  14. Selection phase and project implementation • Once all the application forms are received, the SDF selects a limited number of projects • The final selection will be made at the beginning of 2011
