  2. Mission Statement • Mission is to provide humanitarian aid to the underserved around the world through urgently needed medical, surgical and educational supplies.

History of Mano-a-Mano • Founded in Fall of 2007 by Dr. Pedro Cordero and Dr. Lorna Bayes who were touched by what they saw in the Philippines on a medical/surgical mission • The poverty, lack of medical care • Need for items routinely discarded in the US • Services • Surgery, Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, Pediatrics, Opthalmology with free eyeglasses, Dental, Circumcision, OB/GYN (pap smears and breast exams), glucose screening, health lectures

Medical Missions • Location • Haiti and Philippines • Diagnosing and treating pts • >1000 pts on missions over a 5 day period • Screening stations for diabetes, htn, cholesterol • Dental work • OB/GYN services • Pap smears and breast exams • Opthalmology screening and eye glasses • Immunizations • Medication and treatment free of charge to pts who need it

Surgical Missions • Location • Ghana (with Operation Hernia), Philippines • Circumcisions, minor surgery in Philippines • Longstanding inguinal hernias in Ghana • Goal is to continue with projects in the Philippines and to continue working with Operation Hernia • Planned OH missions in India and Nicaragua

  26. The Future • We realize the need for continuation of care…which takes a HUGE amount of monetary resources • Our goal, however, is to leave behind patients who are much more aware of their medical problems and are more educated about their medical treatment needs.
