At its height the British Empire covered a fifth of the World’s land mass. The growth of the British Empire was largely due to Britain’s success at trading with other countries.

Britain to Africa

The things exported from Britain to Africa are metal goods, textiles and guns.

The British then traded these items for slaves, they would get about 30,000 slaves a year.

  • 10 million slaves were from Africa between 1650 -1900
  • Slaves were then sold in auctions like commodities.

Here is a diagram of the slave ship “The Brookes”.It was designed to carry 451 slaves but on one voyage it carried 600 slaves.
