  1. PRAY FOR ALL YOU’RE WORTH JESUS AND PRAYER MATTHEW 6:5-9

  2. MATTHEW 6:5-9 • “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

  3. “And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. This then is how you should pray….” Matthew 6:7-9

  4. I. WHAT IS PRAYER? • What prayer is not:

  5. What is prayer? • Prayer in it’s simplest form is: COMMUNICATING WITH GOD

  6. II. TO WHOM DO WE PRAY? • WE PRAY TO GOD WHO IS THE ONE AND ONLY GOD – REVEALED IN THREE PERSONS! GOD THE FATHER GOD THE SON GOD THE HOLY SPIRITY

WE PRAY TO: GOD THE FATHER “Our Father, who art in heaven…” Matt. 6 :9 “Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible, the hour might pass from him. “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you….” Mark 14:35,36 “...but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by Him we cry, “Abba, Father.” (Romans 8:15)

TO WHOM DO WE PRAY • WE PRAY TO THE FATHER THROUGH THE SON! • “There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” I Tim. 2:5 • “Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is His body…” Hebrews 10:19

TO WHOM DO WE PRAY? • WE PRAY TO THE FATHER, THROUGH THE SON BY WAY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT! • “At that time Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you Father, Lord of heaven and earth…” (Luke 10:21) • “Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father…” Galatians 4:6

  10. III. HOW SHOULD WE PRAY • WE PRAY IN FATIH – BELIEVING NOT DOUBTING! • “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer” Matthew 21:22

  11. HOW SHOULD WE PRAY? • WE PRAY BOTH SUCCINCT AND LENGTHY PRAYERS • “And when you pray, do not keep on babbling…” Matthew 6:7 • “…Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.” Lk. 6:12

  12. HOW SHOULD WE PRAY? • WE SHOULD PRAY ACCORDING TO GOD’S WILL! • “…THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN;” Matthew 6:10 • “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” Lk. 22:42

  13. HOW SHOULD WE PRAY • WE SHOULD PRAY WITH HUMILITY! • “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face…” II Chronicles 7:14

  14. HOW SHOULD WE PRAY? • WE SHOULD PRAY WITH GRATITUDE! • “And taking the cup, He gave thanks and said…” Luke 22:17 • “And he took bread, gave thanks, and broke it, and said…” Luke 22:19

  15. FOR WHAT DO WE PRAY? • WE PRAY FOR THOSE WHO SIN AGAINST US AND OFFEND US! • …Pray for those who persecute you…” Mtt. 5:44 • “bless those who curse you and pray for those who mistreat you…” Lk. 6:28

  16. FOR WHAT DO WE PRAY? • WE PRAY FOR OUR NEEDS! • “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you; For everyone who asks receives…Matt. 7:7,8

  17. FOR WHAT DO WE PRAY? • WE PRAY FOR WORKERS IN THE HARVEST FOR GOD! • “Then he said to his disciples, “ The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Mtt. 9:37,38

  18. FOR WHAT DO WE PRAY? • WE PRAY FOR ONE ANOTHER! • “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” Luke 22:31,32

  19. FOR WHAT DO WE PRAY? • WE PRAY FOR DELIVERANCE FROM TROUBLE! • “Now my heart is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour? No, for it was for this very reason I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name!” John 12:27

  20. FOR WHAT DO WE PRAY? • WE PRAY FOR GOD’S WILL TO BE DONE! • “…NEVERTHELESS, NOT MY WILL, BUT THINE BE DONE.” LUKE 22:42

  21. TRUTH TO LIVE BY • PRAYER CAN MOVE THE HAND OF GOD TO ACT ACCORDING TO HIS WILL! • PRAYER CAN CHANGE OUR LIVES BY CHANGING US!

  22. TRUTH TO LIVE BY • PRAYER CAN CHANGE OUR CHURCH TO BE A PLACE OF POWER • PRAYER CAN CHANGE THE LIVES OF OTHERS
