  3. What We Are & Are Not Denying What We Are Not & Are Denying • What we are NOT denying: • That God is the one who saves. • That salvation is by GRACE through – FAITH: (Eph 2:8,9; John 3:16; Rom 5:1; Heb 11:6) • What we are denying: • That salvation is unconditional – (2 Pet 3:9) • That men are justified by faith ONLY – (James 2:24) • That baptism is a nonessential to salvation! (1 Peter 3:21)

  4. This Discussion Is About – Three Points What This Discussion Is About: God's Universal Love and desire to save all men. Mans ability to respond to God’s love by choosing saving faith. The faith that submits to God’s sovereign will by obeying Him.

  5. Salvation By Faith – “Faith” Passages Salvation Through Faith!! • These passages tell us that we are saved by faith! • John 5:24; • John 3:15,16;18,36 • John 6:47; • John 8:24; • Acts 10:43; • Acts 15:9; • Acts 16:31; • Romans 5:1; • Ephesians 2:8,9 • 1 John 5:10-13 We accept them ALL! Hebrews 11:6 Which passage teaches salvation by FAITH ONLY? (James 2:14-24)

  6. Questions for Monday Night Questions for Monday Night • 1. True or False: “God unconditionally chooses who will be saved, and this leads to the logical conclusion that as a result of His not choosing others, He creates them and never gives them an opportunity to be saved.” • 2. If unconditional election be true, what is God’s motivation for not saving the majority of mankind: ______ • a) God is NOT powerful enough to provide them with a way of salvation. • b) God does NOT love them enough to provide them a way of salvation. • 3. True or False: “Jesus Christ died for the sins of every human being.” • 4. True or false: “An elect infant who dies in his infancy will be saved.” • 5. Is the baptism of Romans 6:3-6; Galatians 3:27; and Colossians 2:12 necessary for forgiveness of past sins? Yes or No

  7. Acts 8:12-17 - What Put The Samaritans Into Christ? What Put The Samaritans Into Christ? One enters Christ through “baptism” Romans 6:3-6; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Galatians 3:26,27 • The Samaritans were saved and “in Christ” in Acts 8:12. Yet, they had only been baptized in the name of Jesus Christ – (i.e. water baptism, Acts 10:47,48) • They had received no miraculous measure of the Holy Spirit! (thus no Holy Spirit baptism had occurred!) – (Acts 8:15-17) • Water baptism is the baptism of Romans 6:3-6; Galatians 3:27; & 1 Corinthians 12:13 which PUTS one INTO Christ!

  8. The will of God – Jesus wants all men to Come to Him – Mat. 23:37 God's Will, Love, & Desire Matthew 23:37 (NKJV) "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! Jesus "Wants" All To Come To Him! BUT - We Must Be Willing!

  9. God Is Not Partial – Whoever Fears Him Acts 10:34,35 God's Will, Love, & Desire Acts 10:34-35 (NKJV) Then Peter opened his mouth and said: "In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. [35] But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him. God Is NOT Partial! Man MUST respond to God’s love & grace!

  10. God Is Not Partial– Commands All Men To Repent – Acts 17:30 God's Will, Love, & Desire Acts 17:30 (NKJV) Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, God Is NOT Partial! Man MUST respond to God’s love & grace!

  11. God Is Not Partial – Desires All To Come To A Knowledge of Faith – 1 Tim. 2:4-6 God's Will, Love, & Desire 1 Tim. 2:4-6 (NKJV) who desiresall men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. [5] For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, [6] who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time, God Is NOT Partial! Man MUST respond to God’s love & grace!

  12. The will of God – For All Men to Repent – 1John 2:1,2 God's Will, Love, & Desire 1 John 2:1-2 (NKJV) . . . [2] And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world. For whom did Jesus die? Those who were currently Christians as well as everyone else!

  13. Salvation By Grace Through Faith – Ephesians 2:8-10 Text Salvation By Grace Through Faith Ephesians 2:8-10 (NKJV) For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, [9] not of works, lest anyone should boast. [10] For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

  14. Salvation By Grace Through Faith – What is The Issue – Conditional? Salvation By Grace Through Faith Salvation by Grace not at Issue: (Ep 2:5, 8) “By grace have ye been saved” (Rom 3:24) “Being justified freely by his grace” • The Issue Is: • Are there any conditions that the alien sinner must meet in order to be saved by God’s grace? • (Either Unconditional or Conditional!)

  15. Works Used in Different Ways The Word "Works" Of Merit Ephesians 2:8; Titus 3:5 Where Do Repentance, Confession & Baptism Belong? A System of Sinless Perfection Romans 3:27; 4:2-8; 11:6 WORKS Of Faith 1 Thes 1:3; James 2:14-26 (Defines the kind of faith that saves)

  16. Salvation By Grace Through Faith – What is The Gift? Salvation By Grace Through Faith Through Faith What is the gift, what is “IT”- (“It is the gift . . . not “they are”) And that (kai touto). Neuter, not feminine tauteô, and so refers not to pistis (feminine) or to charis (feminine also), but to the act of being saved by grace conditioned on faith on our part.(A.T. Robertson, Word Pictures in the New Testament, p. 525). Grace – Faith, Salvation that comes by grace through faith?

On that day only they marched around the city seven times. [16] And the seventh time it happened, when the priests blew the trumpets, that Joshua said to the people: "Shout, for the Lord has given you the city! GRACE

  19. Salvation By Grace Through Faith - Joshua 6:20 – Grace – Does Obedience Nullify Grace? And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat. Then the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. Did their obedience nullify God’s GRACE? FAITH Hebrews 11:30 Gal 2:20,21; 3:1

  30. Exegesis of James 2:20-22 Are We Saved By Faith Only? The Kind of Faith That Saves James 2:20-26 (NKJV) But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
