Abrogation The Theological basis for abrogation is in the Koran. Q 2:106 “and for whatever verse we abrogate or cast into oblivion, we bring a better of the like of it; knowest thou not that Allah is powerful over everything?” Allah can substitute one revelation for another.

Sharia Law • The term means "way" or "path". Sharia attributes different legal rights to different groups. • Sharia distinguishes between men and women, as well as between Muslims, "people of the Book" such as Jews and Christians and other non-Muslims. • Under 'Sharia' law non-Muslims must pay tax called Jizya if they want to live safely in Muslim states. • Recently a minority community of Sikhs was forced to pay Jizya to live safely in a Pakistani region controlled by Taliban. • Under Sharia a non-Muslim is worth half that of a Muslim.

The minister of the interior (Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz) is reported to have ordered the immediate detention and flogging of the 75-year-old woman, along with two Saudi Arabian men known only as Fahad and Hadyan. • Sawadi and Fahad were sentenced to 40 lashes and four months' imprisonment, and Hadyan to 60 lashes and six months' imprisonment, Sawadi also faces deportation to her native Syria on completion of her prison term. • Saudi Arabia enforces a strict version of Islamic sharia law and imposes corporal punishment for a wide variety of offences.
Jizya • Is a per capita tax levied on non-Muslim citizens. • From the point of view of the Muslim rulers, jizya was a material proof of the non-Muslims' acceptance of subjection to the state and its laws. • In return, non-Muslim citizens were permitted to practice their faith, to enjoy a limited measure of communal autonomy, to be entitled to Muslim state's protection from outside aggression. • Non Muslims who pay this head tax or fee are called Dhimmi’s. Started preaching that Allah was the one true god and he was the final prophet • He was rejected & abused by the Arabs in Mecca so he took his few followers and fled north to Medina • He built a following in Medina by raiding caravans headed to Mecca from Syria • Attached Mecca for eight years
Finally conquered Mecca with an army of about ten thousand men in 630AD • He built his army and Islam by plundering caravans and villages and by slave trading • Muhammed received 20% of all the plunder including 20 % of all the slaves • Arabs would only acknowledge him if the Jews would confirm him as a prophet
The Jews refused to recognize him as a prophet (Because of the many errors in his teachings) • So Mohammed had 3 options: #1 Confess he was not a prophet #2 Move to an area with no Jews #3 Purge Medina of the Jews • He slaughtered and drove out the Jews of Medina • Died in 632 AD by then he had converted the entire Arab Peninsula to Islam by the sword
