  1. SmartClassrooms ASmartClassroom is a general assignment classroom (GAC) containing technology to enhance and assist in instruction.

  2. SmartClassrooms Standard Equipment • Computer/Video Projector • VHS video cassette/DVD player* • PC with net connection, DVD-ROM, and USB ports • VGA/mini cables for laptops • Speakers • Overhead Projector* • 2 Screens (where possible) • Help Phone • AMX Touchpanel Controller

  3. SmartClassrooms Equipment Access Room lights, the overhead projector, and the classroom PC are always usable CTS regulates access to the data projector and the AMX control panel For classes and all class-related events (reviews, film screenings, etc.), all equipment is enabled

  5. SmartClassrooms Standard Equipment Operation The touchpanel contains a motion sensor and should “wake up” when you get near. If not, simply tap the blank screen.

  6. SmartClassrooms Standard Equipment Operation Touch the screen to turn on the computer projector. This will allow you to direct video and audio signals.

  7. SmartClassrooms Standard Equipment Operation Outside of regular class hours (or paid event hours) the touchpanel will be disabled.

  8. SmartClassrooms Standard Equipment Operation For all classes, and for events requesting use, the panel will be enabled.

  9. SmartClassrooms Standard Equipment Operation Now, simply select a source to display...

  10. SmartClassrooms Standard Equipment Operation ... and adjust room lights and volume.

  11. SmartClassrooms Standard Equipment Operation Lights The buttons control different banks of lights in the room. Tap once to turn OFF, tap again to turn ON.

  12. SmartClassrooms Standard Equipment Operation Volume Indicator Volume Up Mute VolumeDown Volume controls are universal. They control the volume for whatever device is being projected.

  13. SmartClassrooms Standard Equipment Operation When you select VCR you’ll see this screen.

  14. SmartClassrooms Standard Equipment Operation This panel controls the VCR just like a remote control. Buttons on the front of the deck can also be used.

  15. SmartClassrooms Standard Equipment Operation To turn off video projection temporarily, use ‘Video Mute’. (‘Video Mute’ does not mute the audio or stop the tape)

  16. SmartClassrooms Standard Equipment Operation When you select DVD you’ll see this screen.

  17. SmartClassrooms Standard Equipment Operation These panels now allow you to control the DVD player. This is the ‘Transport Control’ screen.

  19. SmartClassrooms Standard Equipment Operation Power VCR/DVD Controls Front A/V Inputs If an external device is needed, it can be connected via the front A/V inputs. The VCR must then be switched to ‘LINE 2’ by pressing the tracking up/down buttons on the front of the player. This device can now be controlled by using the VCR button on the AMX panel.

  21. SmartClassrooms Standard Equipment Operation DVD/CDROM Drive USB Inputs Media Card Reader Power The installed computer is always net-connected. Please note these PCs no longer have floppy drives. In addition to the front USB inputs, there are two USB extension cables located in the cable cubby.

  26. SmartClassrooms Standard Equipment Operation Power Off Tap to shut down Tap to cancel Upon system shutdown, the projector will turn off and will not be able to project again for two minutes.

Helpful Information Computer Issues • Users must log into SmartClassroom computers using their UCInetID and password. • SmartClassroom software: www.oit.uci.edu/computing/smartclass/index.html • If additional software is needed, contact OIT at x42222 • If using a laptop on campus: • Know how to turn on its external display • Register its MAC address with OIT • Set it to connect to the network automatically using DHCP

  30. Helpful Information Additional Equipment If additional equipment is needed in a room, it can be requested from CTS or brought in from another department. To request from CTS, talk to your department business office and have them fill out an Equipment Rental Request Form. Three business days notice is generally required for all equipment rentals.
