  2. MEET RIVERS FREDRICK, MD & JACOB YOIST, MD CLASS OF 1897 Graduating in 1897,Rivers Fredrick, MD and Jacob Yoist, MD are UIC’s earliest known African-American physician graduates. At the time, the College of Medicine was officially known as the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Chicago (“P&S” for short).

  3. MEET ISABELLA GARNETT, MDCLASS OF 1901 Graduating in 1901, Isabella Garnett, MD is UIC’s earliest known African-American female physician graduate.

  4. MESSAGE FROM AFRICAN-AMERICAN ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT “I am really excited to be one of this year’s recipients. I worked very hard this past year to learn as much as I could about medicine and life sciences. Your support of the minority medical students at UIC-COM means a lot to all of us.
