  1. Chemistry Lab #3 2C – One in a Million Lab Book Page 28 MasterBlaster info: Set up – page 298 Measuring Absorption - 300

  2. Lab 3 - One in a Million • Read in the lab book: • Master Blaster Set up – page 298 • Measuring Absorption – 300 • Draw out tables 1 and 2 on pages 29 and 30 – use rulers to make it neat!

  3. Job Assignments A cleanup B cleanup/scientist C reader D aprons/scientist All record Periods 1245, do not unplug master blasters. Period 6, unplug and wrap cords with velcro

  4. A lab hand out is provided. Page 1 VI. Draw out tables 1 and 2 on pages 29 and 30 – use rulers to make it neat!

  5. Page 298, & 300(absorption) • See above pages in your Lab Book for Master Blaster (Lab Master) use. • We’ll be using the Spectrophotometer to “read” the amount of light that is absorbed by the color present in the solutions. • Complete Part 1 (page 28) and Part 3 (page 30) after reading the above pages.

  6. Sample Plot Soln. R G B • 0.99 3.75 3.76 • 0.16 2.60 2.55 • 0.03 0.81 1.02 • 0.00 0.03 0.15

  7. VIII Calculations Conc = volume of substance x 100 total volume Soln #1: 1ml food color x 100 = 10% 10 mL solution Soln #2: 1mL Soln #1 x 10 = 1.0% 10 mL solution Soln #3: 1mL Soln #2 x 1.0 = 0.10% 10 mL solution

  8. Parts Per Million (PPM) Concentration in PPM = Conc. X 1,000,000 SO: (convert %ages to decimals) PPM = 0.10 x 1,000,000 = 100,000 ppm With prior calculations, complete the tables before you hand in your reports.

  9. Actual Write up – Due: One cover sheet per group. Staple your pages together.: Page 1 – IV Data - completed data tables Page 2 VII. Graphs (graph your data on copies I have for you – don’t write in the book & I have RGB markers for you) VIII. Calculations – DO NOT do calculations until you have collected all data!!! See page 29 for calcs. Last Page IX. Discussion – Answer Parts 4 & 5 here. X. Conclusion Paper clip all reports together behind cover sheet.
