  1. Y+ Leadership

  2. The Y+ Programme • Theyoungpeople living with HIV programme (Y+ Programme) is a GNP+ programmefor and ledbyyoungpeople living with HIV (YPLHIV). • The Global Network of People Living with HIV (GNP+) has establishedthe Y+ Programmetoaddressspecific gaps in the HIV response and addressthespecificneeds of youngpeople living with HIV (aged 15-30).

  3. Objectives for the Y+ programme >> Create an enabling environment to support YPLHIV, through creating a global structure to foster a community development. >> Call for meaningful engaged YPLHIV participation in the global response to HIV through advocacy. >> Support new leadership and capacity of YPLHIV. >> Connect YPLHIV to support each other, share experiences, best-practices and information. >> Mainstream YPLHIV into existing PLHIV networks, organisations and initiatives (including GNP+).

  4. Leadership & YPLHIV • The HIV response has professionalized – the leadership skills and capacities required now are much more varied than they were 15 years ago. Support needs to be provided to gain all of these skills, and we need to be open to different ways of young people acquiring certain skills and gaining new experiences. • The skills and experiences of established leaders are highly valued by young people living with HIV and there needs to be structure through which young people living with HIV can connect with these individuals. • Practical experience and ongoing support during this experience is critical to ensuring young people have the opportunity to put into practice and hone skills in real situations.

  5. Leadership & YPLHIV • There are a number of opportunities that already exist for young people to learn new skills and gain experiences, but access is not systematized, nor coordinated. A centralized mechanism to share information on upcoming internships, scholarships and training opportunities must be in place to make access equitable. • There are tools and resources already in use, adapting these to make them relevant for the needs of young people living with HIV is crucial, as is making them available to all that need them. • There is a common feeling of responsibility and shared commitment to the sustainability of the positive community’s contribution to the HIV response. A system to engage and involve multiple partners, which includes accountability measures will sustain this sense of collective commitment.

  6. Partnerships to support Y+ Leadership • To identify priorities and needs for YPLHIV. • Y+ advisory group, dance4life, GNP+, etc…
