  1. Welcome to Parent’s Night! 2010-2011

  2. Before we begin, let’s introduce ourselves… Ms. Norris Ms. Massey Mrs. Roth Miss Swartz Mrs. Tucker

  3. What are the teachers here to do? We are here to teach your child, help your child develop life skills, get them ready for the EOGs, and prepare them for success in the upper grades.

  4. What can your child expect in third grade? • Your child will learn a variety of topics in math, reading, writing, science, and social studies. • Your child will also take two Predictive Assessments, and the End of Grade (EOGs) test. • Your child can expect to learn in a nurturing environment where they are challenged each day!

  5. Important things to remember throughout the year…. Communication is vital. Please let us know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. Students need good, quality sleep every night followed by a good breakfast in the morning.

  6. Math • New math program: Envisions • Envisions teaches students the concepts step-by-step and with the use of visuals and manipulatives • There are 5 goals for students to master by the end of the year

  7. GOAL 1: Numbers and Operations GOAL 1 Objectives: Numbers up to 9,999 Number operations Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division Fractions Word problems

  8. GOAL 2: Measurement GOAL 2 Objectives: Elapsed time Metric and Customary units for capacity, length, mass, and temperature

  9. GOAL 3: Geometry Goal 3 Objectives: 2D and 3D shapes Grids

  10. GOAL 4: Data Analysis and Probability GOAL 4 Objectives: Graphs Combinations Probability

  11. GOAL 5: Algebra GOAL 5 Objectives: Numeric and geometric patterns Value of unknown in number sentence

  12. About 2 hours long • Consists of calculator active and inactive parts • It’s important for students to show their work and check back over their work • Study Island (www.studyisland.com) is a great resource to prepare for the EOG Math EOG:
