Step #1: Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program - Notification of Intent to Submit • Notify your grant administrator at least 10 business days prior to sponsor deadline. • Provide solicitation information. • Start a budget wish list. • Ask questions and begin the conversation. • Complete Fastlane registration through ORSP and your grant administrator. • Name, temporary password and a numbered ID. • Share sign-on information with grant administrator. • Prompt response to communications are essential.

Step #2: Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program – Documents • What documents will you need? • Project Summary. • Project Description. • References Cited. • Biosketch. • Budget. • Budget Justification. • Postdoc Mentoring Plan (if one is being used). • Facilities, Equipment and Other Resources Document. • Data Management Plan. • Department Approval Letter (prepared by the Department Chair). • NSF outreach component different from broader impacts. • Physics faculty typically fill this requirement by working with the Planetarium or other campus museums, for example.

  6. Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program – Other Things to Consider • For most directorates minimum total budget for the five-year period is $400K, or $80K/year. Read directions carefully to determine the limits for your submission. • Assistant Faculty can apply up to three times; however, only awarded once. • No Co-PI’s or other senior personnel allowed. • Once awarded the annual report must be submitted timely to the sponsor or future funding will be held. • The word CAREER must appear as the first word in the proposal title. • Lots of info on the NSF website (www.nsf.gov).
