  1. Lesson 1 Creating a Database

  2. Objectives • To consider what a database is • To understand the different uses of a database in the wider community • To be able to set up a database which could be interrogated

  3. Working in small groups organise the following data How easy is it to create an ordered file? Think about HOW a computer could help?

  4. Software Microsoft Access • Creating a database on behalf of a Theme Park • Needs to be professionally designed • Needs to consider that the users of the database may not be an ICT expert

  5. Theme Park Wirral Quest Theme Park is a new park located near West Kirby. It has many rides from simple roundabouts to white knuckle roller coasters. It is divided into three zones – Aquatica, Destiny and Mini Quest. A fourth zone is under construction and will be opening for the summer.   Parties and events can be booked at the Theme Park. This information needs to be stored in a relational database as there have been some mix-ups lately with parties being overbooked. The information needs to include the events, bookings, customers, venues and staff.

  6. Task 1 • Using Design View • Allows you to set Data Types • Allows you to Create a ‘Primary Key’ • Allows any adjustments to field properties

  7. Task 2 • Creating a Form • Allows you to create a user friendly design to enter data • Allows a Non ICT expert to complete and add any relevant details

  8. Task 3 • Creating a Relationship • Why is it necessary to create a link between these databases? • What will this link allow us to do?
