Create Interactive Images Thinglink • Free • Web based version • New iPhone and iPad apps • Provides the opportunity to create interactive images to enhance learning • Easily created, edited, and shared -interactive Skitch • Free • Web based version • Droid, Apple and Windows phone apps available • Provides the ability to annotate images & save with Evernote • Easily created, edited, and shared

Thinglink: Make it Interactive • An interactive image tool that provides the ability to turn any image into a multimedia launcher. • Users can create multiple "hot spots" on specific parts of an image and turn the image into a multimedia launcher. • Embed video, record audio (with the click of a button and a free SoundCloud account), or link to any website. • Compatible with any blog or website that has a widget to support javascript, this is a great tool for those who use Blogger, Wikispaces or WordPress.

Images & Learning • You’ve heard the saying “ A picture is worth a thousands words” • Research suggests that images can enhance learning by illustrating concepts and providing visual memory cues. • With Thinglink users can create rich images with music, video, sound, text and more • Share and discover deeper stories and meaning through images

Thinglink • Free access (there are paid accounts) • Available online as web based • New iPad or iPhone app recently added (has limitations) • Once your account is created • You can search for items already created • You can create, “follow”, “touch” and share images. • You can embed Thinglink into your blog or website

  7. www.thinglink.com • Creating your account • Visit www.thinglink.com • Sign in with • Facebook account • Twitter Account • Create a new account • Name • Email address • Password • Check box for notification of weekly stats and alerts

The Dashboard • Search Box • Stream • Allows you to see recently created items of people you are following • Default home page • My Channel • You place to tag images, organize them and see image statistics • Browse • Shows features images, Hot today and hot this week images • Create • Account Information and Settings

Find your image • Once logged into Thinglink • Open an additional web window • Use Google to seek items to add to your image • Remember you can type in simple text, add a personal comment, web link, video or audio segment • SoundCloud has a free audio component • App makes it easy to record audio

The Search • Just like a web search • Type categories: • Broad or specific searches • Click an image to view it • If you want to catalog it; click Touch • The image can then be found permanently under “My Channel” • You can “untouch” to remove the image • You can leave a comment • Share – Edmodo, Facebook, Google+, Twitter, via email or embed as a web link • Lower portion of the screen shows related images that you might choose to use as well.

  11. Stream & Browse • Updates the stream of those you follow, touch or tag • Can also “find” people and add them to your stream • Browse allows you to see featured items and “Hot Today” as well as “Hot This Week” created images

Follow or Touch Tools • “Following” • Allows you to collect items of interest • Similar to Twitter; you follow people who have similar interests • The “Touch” tool • Can Capture existing images or just portions of an image(s) • The “Untouch” tool • Removes the tag of the item you last touched • Can also be used to remove previously added items

  13. My Channel • Your channel is a place to tag images, organize them and see image statistics • You can create new images by either clicking on the blue icon to “start tagging” or using the CREATE tab at the top. • As you create and tag images, they will be stored under the My Channel tab

  14. Your profile • Allows you to update your account information • Change password or email address • Change your account type • Educators are free • Access the online help features • Log out

  15. Create Options • Upload pictures • From hard drive • Flickr account • Facebook account • Import via Web URL • Record Audio via Free SoundCloud app

  16. Begin the creation process • Search for a subject area of interest • Look at some samples • “Goggle” a picture, map, etc. • Search for supporting resources • Video • Add a comment • Add a weblink • I like to collect my links, videos, etc and paste them all in one document for ease of use

  17. Adding pins or “Hot Spots” • Click the area of the object that you wish to add your information • You can add • Web Links • Video • Audio • Text • Additional Images, etc. • You can also change the icon look • Color, shape, size

SKITCH • Free tool from Evernote • Allows the capture of web camera images, pictures, photos, maps and more • Image editing features, export images, export even as PDFs • Allows you to draw and annotate directly on the image • Label a map, • Diagram a cell, etc. • Saved in Evernote for access 24/7 • Online web based access with an app • App is fully functional • Available for Droid, iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch

Skitch and Evernote www.skitch.com • When you log in to SKITCH you will be given the option to create an Evernote account • With Evernote you can sync, save and share all your Skitch notes so they are available anywhere • To use it without Evernote; click the Maybe Later tab • ****Without Evernote you cannot save your images

  23. Skitch – Home Screen • Displays all the Skitch Notes you have captured and saved to your Evernote account • From here you can add new Skitch notes, browse or search • Click New to create • Search • Account Settings to see or make changes to your profile • Trash (iPad) to delete notes

  24. Creating a Skitch Note • Click New • Select the type of image you wish to create • Choose a photo • Take a photo • Draw on a map • Create from PDF • Create from Blank • Capture from Web

  25. The tools…. • Toolbar and Color picker • Tap the toolbar • Choose a color • Adjust the thickness of the line • Arrow Tool • To point out an exact spot or item • Tap the arrow icon • Hold and drag to the spot you want the arrow to point • Color and thickness can be adjusted, too

The tools…. • Line and Shape Tools • These tools allow you to call attention to areas with colored lines or shapes • Tap the square icon to see all tools • Hold and drag over the area you want the shape to appear • Text Tool • Tap the “a” icon • Tap the spot you want the text to appear • Type your text • If you wish to change the format, tap the text you entered, adjust the slider

  27. Tools continued … Draw & Highlight • Similar to a pen and highlighter • Tap the draw & highlighter tools to choose • Highlight tools will “highlight” with transparent ink • Draw tool allows freehand “drawing” Pixelate tool • Allows you to blur portions of an image Crop Tool

  28. Tools continued … Stamp Tool • Easiest way to annotate a document or image • Can visually call attention to specific points, add text to give more information • Tap the stamp icon; choose your stamp • Tap on the Skitch image to add the stamp • Can have a pointer added, too

Selecting, Moving, Resizing & Deleting • Click to select the item • Each annotation is a separate item • Click and drag an annotation to move it anywhere in the Skitch note • To change the direction an arrow is pointing, tap and hold on either side of the blue anchor, then drag to where you want the arrow to point • Tap your annotation, grab the blue anchors to resize • STAMPS cannot be resized • Tap annotation to select it; Delete button will be displayed. Tap Delete to remove item

Saving, Moving and Renaming • Click the Save button to save your Skitch Note • To move your Skitch Note • Tap the Info Tab • Tap the Notebook Field • Tap the Notebook you wish your file to move to and click Done • To rename; Click the info Tab • Tap the Name field • Edit or rename your Skitch Note • Tap Done

  31. To share your Skitch Notes • Tap the Share Icon • Share via • Public Link • Twitter * • Facebook * • Email • Camera Roll • Air Play ( iPad only) • Can collaborate and share PDFs via email (*must turn on share feature; under Profile)
