Funding Alumni Charter Group Operations • Create vision • Communicate and get feedback from your members • Plan activities that support the vision • Be creative, innovative, entrepreneurial, FUN! • Prepare a budget • Anticipate Revenues vs. Expenses • Based on your goals, identify financial needs of the organization • Determine events best suited for achieving goals, generating revenue • Be self supporting

Revenue-Generating Practices • Charge Event Fees • e.g. Dinner-Dance • Self-sustaining • Reasonable, will not curtail participation • Charging Program or Participation Fees • Rutgers Alumni Crew Club in Camden • Collaborate with Local Vendors • for merchandise, event space, group discounts • Others?

Save Money - Use Alumni Relations Resources • Communicate using high-quality Rutgers design templates and save on design costs (e.g. event invitations, newsletter templates, etc.) • Send e-mail blasts through the Communications office of the Department of Alumni Relations • Blog online at Ralumni.com • Promote using Rutgers merchandise for decoration and giveaways

  5. Sample Budget • Template budget and other resources are available at www.Ralumni.com/tools. Baseball Stadium Night Revenues ($20pp X 50) = $1000 Cost ($15pp X 50) = $750 Add-on Revenue = $100 Net Income: $350

  6. Encouraged Fundraising Practices • Solicit funds for scholarships • Promote scholarship impact often • With Rutgers University Foundation • Host Fundraising Events in cooperation with Rutgers University Foundation • Ensures donor credit and documents tax deductibility • e.g. golf outing, dinner, 5K – “Percentage of proceeds will be donated to scholarship…”
