  1. Curriculum Mapping Committee2008-2009 December What are goals for the committee? What is our Course of action for this school year?

  2. Review of Purposes of Mapping To give us an accurate sense of what we are actually doing/teaching To give us an understanding of the path that Kinkaid students take through the school To give us the possibility for vertical/horizontal alignment and coherence To give us an MRI scan on topics- core areas and other i.e. character ed, problem solving, etc. To generate ongoing faculty discussions about curriculum To create a document for new teachers To possibly give support for our ISAS self study

  3. Challenges of Mapping at Kinkaid How do we balance individuality and essentials? How we provide adequate time for input, discussion, revision, judgments, conversation for use? How do we make the case effectively to the faculty? How do we market it so there is value to the faculty for appropriate, productive use for planning? How we do effectively facilitate discussion? HOW DO WE KEEP IT ALIVE?

  4. Goals • In meeting today, March 9 and April 6th we will: • Determine process • Create timeline • Identify the skills/processes we will emphasize on the maps • Software component? Curriculum mapping is a procedure for collecting data about the operational curriculum in a school referenced directly to the calendar. (Heidi Hayes Jacobs)

  5. Where do we begin? Heidi Hayes Jacobs (Getting Results with Curriculum Mapping) What are the optimum conditions for success? (see position paper by Mike Pardee) Who should meet with whom to start our work? What types of venues make sense for the readiness level of our staff members? What technology formats are available or could become available?

  6. Curriculum Map Once we determine the format of our maps…. we can then determine the when, how, what in technology- the timeline and action plan. Process and skills emphasized? Heidi Hayes Jacobs states it is critical that each teacher completes a calendar-based map.

  7. Let’s review different schools/maps in groups. What do we see? What would we like to add? What would we like to delete? What format? How do you think our respective faculty members would do in completing such documents?

  8. Where do we go from here?
