  2. United Methodist Communities Foundation Welcome to United Methodist Communities As a longstanding leader and expert resource in senior living and care, United Methodist Communities (UMC) has grown and changed in response to the needs of our communities, residents and families. UMC continues to dedicate itself to caring and enriching the lives of older adults, whether as residents of our campuses, their homes or in our senior gathering places. The UMC Foundation supports the missional focus of the organization. With a commitment to social accountability and consistent with Wesleyan principles, we cultivate and foster a culture of philanthropy. Both within our organization and the community-at-large, we demonstrate our mission of compassionately serving in community so that all are free to choose abundant life. That passion is shared by individuals, residents, civic organizations, churches of diverse faiths, businesses, foundations, and other donors, who contribute volunteer and financial resources to sustain and grow our ministry. UMC’s mission and commitment to older adult services began with our founding and continues to be at the heart of all we do. Our tagline, Abundant Life for Seniors, comes to life through our missional focus, through the selfless giving of staff, volunteers and donors, and through an extensive repertoire of opportunities for seniors. We support the mission of UMC through charitable initiatives such as relationship building and donor cultivation, as well as through various resource-raising programs, including annual and deferred giving, special events and engagement opportunities.   Although much has changed since our founding in 1907, one important fact has not — we remain a faith-based, non-profit organization. Commitment to the highest business practices and standards goes hand-in-hand with our Christian principles. Today our residents, clients, associates and volunteers represent a diverse array of religions, cultures, traditions, professional, educational, and economic backgrounds. We believe that everyone benefits from these factors as well as our mission, vision and values.

  3. The Not-For-Profit Difference What does it mean to do business with a not-for-profit organization? Moreover, what is a not-for-profit anyway? Doesn’t every business exist to make a profit? Simply put, not-for-profit organizations manage their resources to achieve their missions. Quality is the measure, not earnings. A not-for-profit relies on donations and income from their mission-related activities to continue operating. While non-profits can make profits, the difference is that no individual may profit from any money left over at the end of the fiscal year. Not-for-profit organizations, just like businesses, make sure that revenue exceeds expense, but any profits go back into the organization to fund the mission. In addition, non-profit boards of directors have a fiduciary responsibility to uphold the mission statement as its first priority. What does this mean to you when choosing an aging-services provider? Studies show higher staff to resident ratios and better quality. In terms of the associates, non-profits give better benefits packages, offer more education opportunities and evaluate staff satisfaction regularly. Driven by their missions often translates to a responsibility to compassionate quality for the greater good. HomeWorks Personalized in-home care and case management for older adults.
