  3. Where is French Creek Outdoor School? French Creek Outdoor School is located at the JH Guest Ranch, which is on the eastern slopes of the Russian Wilderness. The camp is located 50 miles southwest of Yreka, California on Highway 3.

  4. Facilities The JH Guest Ranch is considered to be one of the premier camp facilities in far Northern California. The camp consists of comfortable and safe living accommodations along with a spacious dining-lodge complex.

  5. Outdoor Areas • JH Ranch consists of 380 acres which provide FCOS with excellent field study and recreational areas. • The hiking trails and meadows give panoramic views of the high peaks in the Russian Wilderness.

  7. Field Studies The French Creek Outdoor School curriculum is success oriented. Students spend their time doing activities, rather than just reading and discussing.

  8. Field Studies Include: • Forest • Geology • Storytelling • Creek • Challenge Course • Leave No Trace • Night Sky Watch

  9. Field Study Leaders • Local area resource professionals volunteer their time to lead field studies. • All of our leaders have strong scientific backgrounds and experience working with students.

  10. Students of all academic abilities are motivated by this active approach. They experience real-life, hands-on field studies that meet California Academic Content Standards.

  11. Our overall program supports the guiding principles identified in the California State Department of Education curriculum framework and demonstrates the interrelationship of all subject areas.

  12. Evening Programs • Wildlife Rescue Center - includes a live bird show • Wild Roots - includes songs around the campfire

  13. Recreation Students enjoy 2 hours of recreation on Thursday afternoon which includes swimming, kayaking, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and relaxing on the grass. . .

  14. High School Counselors • Cabin counselors are a key element to the success of the French Creek Outdoor School Program • Participating schools select and screen high school students from their community. • All high school counselors attend a pre-camp orientation at French Creek Outdoor School on the afternoon and evening prior to the arrival of the elementary students.

  15. SOU Internship Program • A partnership between the Siskiyou County Office of Education and Southern Oregon University provides college students to work as interns at French Creek Outdoor School.

  16. FCOS Staff French Creek Outdoor School is operated by the Siskiyou County Office of Education as a low-cost, three day alternative to five day residential programs.Our staff includes: • Jason Singleton, Program Director • Trudy Rilling-Collins , Science and Watershed Education Coordinator • Michelle Mauro,Assistant Program Director
