  2. NCRM Aims The NCRM is funded by the ESRC for an initial 5 year period. The specific aims of the NCRM are to: • Improve the quality and range of methodological skills and techniques used by the UK social science community – both qualitative and quantitative • Provide support for, and dissemination of, methodological innovation and excellence in the UK

  3. NCRM objectives The NCRMs aims are to be achieved by: • A programme of research aimed at supporting methodological innovation • A programme of methods training and capacity-building events across the UK • The provision of on-line resources All activities are aimed at strengthening and updating researchers’ skills, knowledge and practice across the social sciences

NCRM Structure • Hub and Nodes structure • Hub based at Southampton - April 2004 for 5 years • 6 Nodes UK Nodes – April 2005 for 3 years • Cardiff University, Universities of Manchester & Leeds, Universities of Lancaster & Warwick, Institute of Education – University of London, Imperial College London, University of Bristol

NCRM Training and Capacity Building • Upgrading methodological skills of social science community • enhancing research skills • raising capacity in certain areas (applied and practice-based disciplines) • Training over life course • Supporting methodological researchers, especially at start of their careers
