  4. Lawson’s Grant Facilitation Office Key Responsibilities: Pre-Award Grant Administration, including: administrative review, assistance with budget development Institute Sign-off Managing Internal deadlines for Multiple External Grant Deadlines Team Building for Multidisciplinary Strategic Funding (CFI) Bi-Annual Internal Research Fund Competitions Presentations/Workshops to Faculty/Scientists Lawson External Nominations/Awards/Support Letters

  5. Grants vs Contracts “Research contracts are negotiated between the scientist and a company, and may be of the result of the scientist approaching a company, or vice versa” It is extremely important to engage Lawson’s Grants & Contracts office early in negotiations for the following reasons: Institute overhead fees must be negotiated up-front! Proposed budgets to do the research must be reviewed! Contract must have the appropriate clauses to protect our scientists!

  6. Lawson’s Signing Process Obtaining Institute Official Signatures: Notify Lawson Grant’s Office when the decision has been made to apply to an external competition Chief/Chair and/or Lawson Theme Leaders must pre-approve by signing “Request for Institute Signature” Lawson Signatures must be obtained at least 2 working days (if not earlier) before the final agency deadline the application, budget, and completed Grant Application Checklist should be submitted to grantsubmission@lawsonresearch.com and copied to one of the staff (Stephanie/Janice) CIHR internal deadlines differ from above!
