  1. Can’t Hoola • Stand withhands in overhand grip, hoop waist high • Tap left heel, then right heel and repeat • Swing hoola hoop back and forth • Place hoop on the floor • Do Hokey Pokey moves as directed • Walk forward, backward with variations around the hoop on floor

  2. Circles Everywhere • Act out actions in the lyrics • Move hoop in large arc • Move hoop low than high • Look through the circle head high • Find something in the area that has a circular shape • Emphasis: pattern recognition, creative movement

  3. Jump and Land • When music begins, run around the perimeter of the hoop area. • When music stops, stop running • Drum beat: jump and land inside the hoop • Bell: jump and land outside of the hoop

  4. Create a sequence • Hoops can also be used as a lead up to rope jumping • Hoops can be used as a manipulative object for movement exploration • Spin hoops • Relationship with hoop, inside, outside, through, under • Hoola hoop:waist, foot, hands, neck

  5. Scarves • Use as lead up to bean bags for manipulative skill of catching • Lead up to rhythmic juggling • For creative movement: use as a visual aid to encourage flowing movement • Circles • Ups and Downs • Windshield wipers

  6. Bean Bags • Bean bags can be used as a visual tool when moving to music • Balancing bag • Tossing & catching bag • Location marker • Partner throw and catch

  7. Create a sequence • With the bean bag or scarf: • Create a rhythmic sequence to a song • Create a rhythmic pattern to teach beginning juggling
