2. Biome: • A group of ecosystems with similar temperatures and precipitation or salinity and water depth • Two Types: • Terrestrial – Land Based • Aquatic – Water Based

3. Terrestrial Biome • Types are determined by the amount of precipitation and the average temperature

4. Temperature Zones: • Three temperature zones that go from warm at the equator to cold at the polar regions

5. Marine Biomes: • Two major classifications are marine (salt water) and freshwater

6. Tropical Rain Forest • Forest in tropical region with large amounts of rainfall

7. Deciduous Forest: • Found in temperate regions and characterized by broad leaf, deciduous trees

8. Coniferous Forest • Forest closer to the poles, characterized by evergreens, sometimes called or similar to the taiga

9. Savannas: • Found in or just outside tropical regions with precipitations mostly occurring over a period of a couple months

10. Tundra: • Treeless plan that is frozen most of the year and gets little rainfall

11. Desert: • An arid region with little to no precipitation, can be hot or cold

12. Oceans: • Open ocean, deep water and high salinity

13. Coral Reefs: • Coastal ocean, shallow water, and high salinity

14. Estuaries: • Regions where salt water meets freshwater, like the Chesapeake Bay

15. Freshwater: • Includes ponds, streams, rivers, and lakes
