  7. Tiede by night tour Highlight No 1: Milky Way Highlight No 2: M31

  8. To sum up Views not a lot different to a darkish site at home due to hotel lights etc, even form the vacant land next to a darkish (but rocky!) car park close to our hotel. The tour was worthwhile, but the *30 minutes allotted for observing was nowhere near long enough to do justice to the location! However a visit to the Tiede observatory may well be worthwhile as apparently they have a 250mm (10”) Dobsonian and a 500mm (20”) scope that can be used, but you aren’t allowed to use your own equipment (see their website for details)! What you will need is a letter of confirmation from our President (I presume that’ll be you Andy?!) that you are a bone fide member of an astronomical society or group.I didn’t find this out until too late (my own fault!), but if anyone goes to the observatory, please let us all know how you got on.
